Beware of TrainHorns.net bad experience

I have been enjoying this forum for quite some time. A month or so ago a post was made regarding loud horns, specifically from trainhorns.net , I was interested so I purchased an inexpensive ( $75 ) horn to be installed on a new 2010 DC LB in shipment to my dealership. The truck arrived a few weeks later than projected so the parts department held on to the horn so they could install it when the truck arrived. Well, the truck arrived they preped and installed my horn...it beeped once and then quit. The service guy feels it is either a bad relay in the horn or the electric motor is shot. I call TrainHorns.net and get nothing but a runaround. Customer service keeps telling me there is nothing they can do even though they say the horn comes with a one year warranty. All they do is tell me they are contacting the manufacturer but that is all they can do. One beep, $75, it's a ripoff and an agravation I don't need !!!

 

Now i never want to talk bad about Toyota, but maybe they did the install wrong and didnt want to fess up to it?? Just a thought.

did you check to make sure everything is properly grounded? all connections are secure? make sure its not an install problem first? a horn is pretty basic

No. The install was good. The product sucks and the manufacturer just keeps sending a generic message that no returns or exchanges are allowed. Lesson learned, hope you can avoid my mistake.

 

You pay with credit card? If so contact them and dispute charges due to warranty not being honored. And have your documentation of their denial ready...

 

Are they the actual maker of the horn or just the retailer? They have a what looks like a 14day return policy. Obviously you were not able to install it in that time and playing devils advocate, that is not their fault.

Yes, it was installed past the 14 day limit, but it still is suppose to be under a one year warranty. I am not looking for my money back, I just want the parts necessary to have the horn work. Train Horns.net will not even authorize a return of the defective horn for warranty work !!! Devils advocate ???....I dont think so.

 

that sucks, if a deal is too good to be true..probably is. 75 bucks is supercheap

Kinda old thread. Wondering if anybody ever checked the fuse on the truck?

I installed a louder horn on mine and it popped the factory fuse the 1st or 2nd time I went to use it. Read the instructions and it required a larger fuse, problem solved. Stock I think was like 10 amps or something and required a 20 amp or something.

 

Popping in a larger fuse has it's risks as the wiring may have not been rated for the higher amperage fuse. Can run the risk of electrical fire.

 

Maybe if you lay on the horn for 5 minutes straight.
