Truxedo LowPro QT installed today

Received my tonneau cover from Truxedo yesterday and was very anxious to install, so I tackled it tonight. Did it by myself in about 1 hour.

Instructions were pretty good with graphics, etc. I got a little anxious and tightened a few bolts up before final adjustment. No big deal. Just loosened and got it set properly.

Taking D-tie downs was required and very easy. Pics will show that the cover mounting brackets and stock D-tie downs share the factory rails, so the order of installation is very important.

First in is the bracket followed by the D-tie down:


Following in order was next cover bracket, 2nd D-tie down, last cover bracket, end rail cap:


as you can see the D-tie downs fit, but not much room above between tie down and underside of rail. Might be a challenge to get a hook around the tie down, but probably possible:


clearance is about .25"

forgot to show fwd seal installation,but it was simply a thick foam seal with double back tape and you just stick directly to the top of the truck bed rail at cab

Haven't driven with it yet, but am excited to test it out. It rolls open easy, closes nicely and seems to have most everything sealed pretty well. Not 20 fathoms waterproof, but will keep most rain out.

Ordered my Pop&Lock tailgate lock today, so that is next install. Bed isn't completely secure until the ability to lock.

Overall, I'm very happy with the Truxedo LowPro cover, as I researched both Truxedo and Access and chose Truxedo for one main reason. The brackets share the factory rails, rather than go behind like the Access. I'm sure the Access is just fine, but I liked Truxedo better.

great write up and picks! just ordered one today from luke @truck alterations. hes a tw sponsor...345 shipped...i really liked the truxedo but looks like it going to be hard to use the tie down cleats being they are so close...that kinda sucks...the access allows full operation of the cleats....thanks again for picks!

 

Truthfully, I think you could carve a little bit of the Truxedo rail right above the D-tie down and have full access to it. I will contemplate this idea. Of course don't want to damage the functionality of cover/rails, but I think taking only a little material out would be ok.

 

that sounds like a good option, i liked how low the truxedo rides much better than access...after looking at your picks the access does allow the cleats to move around freely without restriction....i have had great luck with the truxedo on my titan and the truly do stand behind the lifetime warranty....

 

dam i had one of those on my titan, those are great, rolls right up in seconds to utilize to whole bed, and looks bad a$$

after the install are the factory tie downs still functional, are you able to still move them around and take them off as well?

Great cover! mine had a couple factory gluing flaws so I took out the D rings and carved out the holes slightly to lower the cover so it would seal around the edges. Works great now

 

Man I want one, but it is so overpriced for what it is.

 

So, have you tried to put a hook through that tie-down yet?

Cover looks great, btw...almost ready to pull the trigger on one, but that would be an issue if I couldn't hook into the cleat.

 

Excellent write up and helped in my decision. Looks great on the silver Tacoma.

Alright folks, it's been a while since this forum has been touched. Has anyone installed a low pro with the OEM bed extender. I just tried and it's hitting the cover support. Any suggestions?
