AutomatCentral.com LED Turn Signal Review w/ Pictures/How-to

First off, I want to thank Automatcentral.com for giving me the chance to try out one of their products.

I was chosen to try out the LED Turn signals that they have to offer. I was skeptical about these at first... but when i received them, they looked a lot better than i thought. Almost OEM. I decided to mount them on my mirrors. I also knew i wanted a clean install, in other words, i DID NOT want any wiring to show. This obviously took much more time than the few other ways you could do it. However, i am very happy with they way they came out and glad i took this route.




Here they are right out of the package:




Off to the garage! and our install begins!!



I drilled a small hole to pass the wiring through.






I then peeled the 3M tape backing off and "stuck" them on...






Couldn't wait to see what they looked like all lit up... So i used a portable jumpstarter and hooked them up to that... just to see how they'd light up... DAMNNN... these things are BRIGHT!





Here i am running the wiring behind the actual mirror. The mirror is actually very easy to remove. (Sorry, no pics) It is literally held on by clips. My mirrors are actually not OEM, but the OEM mirror glass is even easier to remove



Next step is to remove the tri-angular shaped black "cover". This gives us access to the three bolts that hold in the side mirror.



Alright, now on to the door panel removal..
You will need to remove 1"push clip" and (2) bolts. (Bolt locations pictured)




Use a Knife or a VERY thin flat head screwdriver and pop off the two small square covers.. This grants us access to the two bolts we need to remove...




ok, the two screws are now out... Next we need to take out the window switch panel. Pop it out with a knife. Start at the top and push up. It should pop right out. Once it's out, we need to disconnect the plugs that connect our switch. There are a total of 2 plugs. Don't worry about mixing them up, you WONT. They will only go back into their corresponding slots.




You can now remove the door panel. I first pulled the top of the door panel up and towards me to prevent the rubber window channel from ripping off. Once the metal lip of the door is cleared, pull the door directly towards you.
You will hear a series of "pops" That should be the clips releasing.





Remove the (3) nuts that are holding to the mirror assembly and the door together.



and.... our mirror assembly is out!



Now we have to remove (3) small bolts that hold the mirror to arm. Once the two pieces are apart as shown, we can run the new signal wiring through the same "wiring protector" as the power mirror wires.




You might have to remove this rubber piece for more room. It is only held on with one screw, once the wire is run through it... Screw it back on.




Ok, the wiring is now hidden behind the mirror.. Now, lets tighten back up those (3) small screws.... and put the mirror back on the door.




Line up the three bolts and put them in



Tighten up the (3) 10mm nuts....




Connect the power mirror connectors back up...



and now to hide the signal wiring...You will need to remove your speaker for the next few steps.. Removal requires the same 10mm socket you used to tighten back your mirror..



Time to remove that kick panel.. Turn the Black Screw cap Counter-clockwise, remove it. Now just pull the kick panel straight out (towards rear of truck)



You will need to remove this panel as well. (this allows us to take out the kick panel)



I then ran the wiring through the existing wiring protector. Pull on the ends to "pop" the end out of the door. Then run the wire through and replace the rubber wiring protector. Do the same for the other side.



Now we have to get the wire out into the engine bay. I found a grommet by the fender and used that one. I poked through with some solder (flexible enough to work with) and taped my wiring to the end of that. With the wiring taped and ready, i pulled the solder back out and out came the wiring along with it.





Pull the wiring through and replace the rubber grommet




The wires ended up being a tad bit short... Not a big deal.. I soldered in about a foot and a half of wiring and took care of that real quick. I then tapped into the existing turn signal wiring and.....

i now HAVE LED TURN SIGNALS ON MY SIDE MIRRORS!!




All said and done!

Damn dude, i like the way they look. I thought so long/hard on putting them on the mirror but decided against it. But great write up and photos man. I hope you enjoy those lights as much as i do!!

Did you have to upgrade your signal relays? Or did the added load not affect how fast the signals flash?

You don't have to upgrade. The only thing that you notice is there is a slight difference in timing from your stock signals and these. That's what i noticed when i installed mine.

If you check my tiny ass, non-detail review there is a video that shows how the timing is.

Install took probably something like 2hrs. It only took this long because i kept trying to take pics of my process. lol

Excellent and masterful review! You did a great job in providing detailed steps of your installation and demonstrating the ease of the overall process.

they look like bushwacker flares, and that black is a MOD. Ive been debating wrapping them in leather with my arm rests as well

I got the Bushwacker fender flares from www.truckaddons.com. They had they lowest price out of anywhere online. I also used an online coupon code i found for more discount. lol

And the switch cover was sprayed with duplicolor spray on bed coating/liner.
I had previously painted them with regular paint, and it was NOT holding up at all. It would rub off from peoples pant legs rubbing on it.

sorry for the late reply, haven't been on here in a while...

They are indeed a soft plastic. They almost had a rubber feel to them.. they should be smokeable. i'd probably smoke them once they are stuck onto the mirror though. (to prevent the smoked layer from cracking when forming to the mirror
