Ok - yes that is correct, I used the empty slot closest to the required power pins. I stripped about 1/4" off the ends, inserting into the correct holes and made sure the insulating was just flush with the surface - pulling the slack back up through connector.
Because the pins are actually 'blades', it provides a very snug fit. The wires will prevent the locking feature of plug, but trust me you will not need it. The first time I tested it I pushed it in hard and was a struggle to pull apart. No damage to the pins or wires and works excellent.
Although I normally would solder my connections, this is a viable substitute. The entire install could theoretically
be done with a good pocket knife or gerber tool.
