Bought the Plus set and the tailgate strut... 35 minutes later and everything is installed and working perfectly! That star bolt on the tail was a PITA but otherwise, once it finally cracked, all is well!
Great product, and thank you for the sale pricing!

Finally installed the kit I received as a Christmas gift. Everything went well and it works. I am just not sure if it works exactly as it is supposed to. When I lift the hood up after about 6 inches the hood struts start lifting the hood on their own. But the hood does not go all the way up. It goes about 3/4 of the way up and then stalls there. Could this be cold related or maybe just that the struts have not "broken in" yet and are a little stiff?

Did you compress them before install several times? I just did mine and it works great takes a little effort to start the lift still but I think it will get better with time

Below is a post from another thread that says that compressing the springs is not necessary. So I did not compress them before installing.

Cycling the gas springs is NOT required... we have been slowing removing this step from all of our manuals.

Basically, the gas springs are dry - they will operate at a higher force when sitting for a long time as the seal and shaft are dry. Once they are compressed, the gas springs will operate at the correct force. Compressing them before installing them isn't always easy. So, we now recommend to install the gas springs and let the weight of the hood help the first few cycles... this will give the same result.

    Thank you,
    Brian

Even though I am a heavy vehicle mechanic myself (busses/trucks), I still had a good mechanic friend install this for me. :sadviolin: Upon install, I began to see that it was fairly simple. What bothers me more, is that I've managed to pass all these years without a rivet gun.

I got the Plus set too at the discounted price. I really appreciate that. Install for me didn't go as quickly as for some of you. It took me a few hours to figure how to mount the brackets accurately. The ones on the hood were especially difficult working at an angle. I finally cut a strip of cardboard the exact length of the distance between the hood bolt and the place where the mounting bracket goes to mark a line at 16.25". Using a couple of L squares I marked another line at 1.75" from the side of the hood. After marking and drilling the holes for the hood brackets, I had another difficult time getting the rivets to pop in. The bottom mounting brackets went much easier but not until I modified them slightly. The rivet behind the strut post makes it hard for the bracket to seat against the flat side wall surface without wobbling around. So I placed some foam tape on both sides of the rivet to get rid of the wobble which made it easier to mark and drill the holes. I was glad they gave me bolts to mount these brackets because the hood bracket rivets were very hard to pop in. At least I got a good install now and the hood struts work very well.

It may be a little tricky to see this. It took me a little time to see it. You have to process each code one at a time. First I applied the 15% off code (TWGB). After that I applied the free shipping code (TacomaWorld). Then it all worked together. You may want to contact Redline and see if they can adjust your bill. I think they would.

I received mine and after reading the directions, I decided I don't want to accidentally mess this mod up. Now where would be a good place in Knoxville to have these installed? These will be so great for me since I am short and have a hard time raising the hood even high enough to use the little rod.
