Rattling head unit help

Here's my solution to eliminate any rattle or wiggle from the head unit using a metra dash kit #82-9514.

First I glue the metra trim piece that surrounds the HU to the metra dash kit itself. I used epoxy and you can see it in the pic.



Now these two are one piece.



Then I slide the brackets that hold the HU into the metra dash kit and sink the screws that hold the HU to the brackets.



Then I apply a little more epoxy where the brackets meet the dash kit. You can see the epoxy in the next pic.



Now the entire metra dash kit is one piece with the HU bolted in. Then I install it just like a stock radio. It first snaps into the dash and then bolts in.



Then, of course, snap the climate controls back in place and you're done.

No rattles, no wiggles, no movement or noises at all.

Finally! I started with a single din kenwood with a scosche kit. Then upgraded to this kenwood double din head unit with a dd scosche. Hated the scosche. Got a metra 82-9514 and messed up the paint on it and it rattled and wiggled. Got another, painted and mounted it properly. Sigh....trial and error...

i had plastic brackets that came with a kit and few months down the line, one broke. Then i installed the factory metal ones and they were a lot better and the HU didnt rattle at all. I also did what baontaco did. Exact same way, i used super glue and it worked great since its liquidy and easy to apply.

 

I used the factory metal brackets at first and didn't like the way they mounted to the HU. Seemed to make it stick out. Now I use the plastic. They should be fine the way everything is mounted.

Did you plasti-dip that.... Also, mine rattles where the top of the Metra kit snaps into the top of the dash. It also rattles by the AC controls.

Thinking I'll glue the dash kit, then use some foam pads down by the AC stuff so it's still removable later.. what are you going to do if you have to replace that stereo later. JB weld is strong shit

 

The dash kits are really horribly designed & manufactured. The materials are trash. Does anyone make a kit that uses all four of the factory head unit bolts?

Assembling a replacement radio and found this thread looking for solutions to make things not potentially break or rattle. I have a Scosche single DIN kit and got a Metra with the radio from Crutchfield. Haven't opened the Metra yet but my feeling is exactly the same. So much cheap plastic. I'm guessing there's going to be epoxy involved to support the metal sleeve the radio slides into. The whole system seems so flimsy.
