Actually I read something similar from reading around here, but I don't know if it still applies. From what I've heard, all the non-metallic paint jobs are single coat jobs, whereas the metallics are painted then clearcoated separately.

I absolutly did. Had a brand new black 2012 manual and i hated it. Black showed everything. Even factory spots where they sanded to paint showed. Not to mention i despised the manual tranny. So here i am 3700 dollars less but im defiantly happy to look at my white automatic!!!!

I've never had a car that wasn't some form of grayscale.

Hand-me-down from parents while in college - white car
    First new car - black
    Next car (used) - white
Next car (new) - silver - tried for blue but would have needed to order and wait 6 months
    Next car (used) - white
Latest car ('15 Tacoma) - Magnetic Gray Mica - blue was originally my first choice but the MGM one was the exact setup I wanted and I actually really liked the color once I saw it in person.

So I've had black cars, white cars, silver cars, and now a gray car over the span of 32 years. Maybe, before I'm dead, I'll get a non-grayscale colored car.

Would I trade-in a car over the color? No. If you want to, go for it. It's your money. Get what you like.

WP_20150326_16_00_41_Rich 1.jpgUnless your living paycheck to paycheck. After 3years I traded in a perfectly good silver Tacoma to get the magnetic gray sport so I could have the hood scoop and color I want.

This is why I put a lot of thought into it. I have been planning a truck purchase for months and decided if I bought a Colorado I would get white, Tacoma was white or magnetic gray.

Black is WAY too hard to keep up with. Dirt shows so easily and spider webs appear from looking at it wrong. The Toyota silver...something about the shade of it makes it the ugliest silver of any manufacturer to me.

OP you mentioned possibly trading for black. I think you will be saying you "can't stand it" even quicker than you did with magnetic gray...mainly from the struggle to keeping up with maintaining it.

I sold my 2nd Tacoma because I didn't like the gray after 6 months. My first was pyrite and it got ruined in an accident. I was influenced to pick the gray, and that was my mistake. I traded it for a CUV, but that only lasted a year before I got the Tacoma bug again. This time I got the Barcelona Red and I couldn't be happier.

Bottom line, if you can afford it, trade it. Get exactly what you want and you won't regret it.

Just do like I did and slam it into a tree. That way the insurance company pays for your new color. Kidding but seriously.

A couple weeks later I picked up this gem in all of it's bone stock glory. A year newer and 20k less miles and I still ended up with money in my pocket.

Until the insurance company says "Sweet Baby Jesus, this guy hit a tree in broad daylight on a clear day...we'd better start charging him more $$ ASAP!!!!" and bounces your rate. :notsure:

When I bought my 2013 reg. cab 4x4, I was excited to get something with the lack of options that I wanted. I wasn't a huge fan of the red but it certainly grew on me. I love that color red now. About the time I got mine another guy bought a blue reg. cab 4x4. At first I was jealous of the color he had but now the red is just a great color.

Yeah, it's not a color so much as a commitment. I had a black Jeep and a black Frontier :)anon:) at one point. Never spent so much time washing, waxing & polishing in my life.
A buddy of mine and I bought identical bikes a few years ago (dealership cut us a deal on a dual purchase). He picked black and I picked metallic grey/silver (because I remembered my experience with black, haha!)
Every time we went for a ride he'd have to spend 2 hours cleaning and buffing his, and I'd just give my bike a quick wipedown and hop on.

I'm not at all worried about the upkeep of black and honestly, I would rather have a black truck that's harder to keep clean than MGM one. Just my personal preference...

I also considered the Barcelona Red, but to me it behaves much like the MGM...and can look very different depending on lighting. In some lights I like it, and in some I don't.

Loving my silver tacoma! its the easiest color. Everytime i see a black vehicle anywhere, I look and see how many spider webs I can find. My friend just leased a 2015 chevy cruze, black. Its a 2015, and In the sun the swirls were practically slapping me in the face. The things brand new!

It sounds like you need to pick a color that does not have metallic flakes in it. Stay away from pearls as well.

A quality wrap in my area is just north of $3k so I wouldn't even consider that an option and unless it is a Lamborghini or Ferrari I have never seen a wrap keep the value up on a car.
