I installed the pop lock along with a bakflip g2 today. It took about an hour total and was straight forward. I have a 2015 short bed double cab. I drill small holes in the plastic grommets on the bed and tailgate to run the wire and it worked well. Ran the wires high with some others on the passenger side. Went up to the rubber grommet on the passenger side under the hood and drill a small hole through it. Ran the wires through and tapped into the wire harness under the passenger side kick panel.

Thanks for all the previous post!

A better, quicker route, I think, is to come up under the passenger seat to the large rubber grommet (there's also a small rubber grommet), and straight over to the harness under the passenger sill protector.

Just received my Pop & Lock today and it has a sponge type material attached to the unit itself so no more using dirty kitchen sponges. Now if it'd warm up I could install it!

I installed a Pop & Lock a few days ago. This thread was very helpful, especially when it came time to find the wires to tap into.

One thing that caused a brief problem was just as I was starting to run the long wire on the underside of the truck from the tailgate to the passenger seat grommet I realized the long wire that came with the Pop & Lock did not have a wire wrap, just the black insulation.

I had to go and buy some wire wrap, add it to the length of the wire, and then complete the installation.

AERO3685 did your PL8521 look like this,
    [IMG]
You mentioned your unit contained a sponge in it. Amazon is selling a PL8521 for 2005-2015 Tacomas that looks completely different, I'm confused.

This is referred to as a PL8521 also. Can you see my confusion?

This thread still reaping the dividends OP sowed that fateful first day. Good stuff. Mine is still functioning flawlessly now 3 years and 53k miles later. Quality product. I think my home furnished sponge bit the dust about 2 years ago though...

I was thinking about that. Thanks for the tip!

I had to run out part way through the install yesterday and had to put the gate skin back on... now I'll go finish the cab wire install the right away! (or tomorrow)

Don't know about the remote FOB Pop n Lock but the regular ones are garbage. I installed 3 of them. They only last a couple of months and the problems start. The worst problem was the door was locked and I had a G2 Backflip trifold cover. I had to push a screw driver between the tailgate and G2 to push down the handle. Opened the G2 and was able to remove the tailgate back panel. When the warranty ran out, they wanted me to pay for shipping. I gave up and installed the oem handle. I would never purchase another Pop n Lock.

You used three, and they all didn't work?

    Bummer!

Glad to see this thread is still helping other out. Also thanks to everyone who put their input in and helped those who needed it.

I'm at 56k now and the Pop and Lock still works great.

Just installed this on my 2015. New kits come with a foam pad to lower noise. I used the camera wire hole between the truck and tailgate to connect it. I then used the rubber grommet under the driver side, then ran the wiring to the driver side b-pillar as per those videos.

Pretty easy install (mostly thanks to this thread).
