I had been thinking about all this prepping stuff, and as cool as it is, I figure if a real apocalypse comes, I think I will just be okay with dieing in the initial cluster fuck. Seriously, who really wants to be living after this shit in a messed up world where the crazy get crazier and normal people turn into animals?

I mean yeah I would give it a shot to survive, depending on what sort of apocalypse we are talking about. I got to be alive to kick some zombie ass for at least a little while!

Maybe when I die I would just ask God for a respawn when things get back to normal

Not yet. I have my girlfriend. I suppose in that light I would fight for them till my dying breath, and I would do the same for my girlfriend or my parents and sister.

I suppose I should rephrase what I said to: If all those close around me died in the initial cluster fuck, then I'd be ready to die as well.

    Haha I came off as a self-centered asshat :p

Lol it's all good. If it's just you then no worries. If there are others to look out for then it's just foolish to not be prepared for their safety and well being

The bad thing is if SHTF, I'll be stuck at college with nothing but a Ka-bar to defend myself and my girlfriend, not to mention I am right outside of Atlanta so highway will be a death sentence with all the people around here.

Doesn't mean you can't have a week or two worth of food and water on hand.

Now that I do have. I have a case of water in my room at all times, plus quite a bit of food (soups, pasta, bread, tuna, etc.)

I've been steadily adding random things to my truck since I bought it last year. This is my inventory so far:

    Center Console
    Emergency glass hammer/seatbelt cutter
    Leatherman Wave w/sheath
LED flashlight w/2 extra CR123A batteries
    Rain poncho (2)
    Emergency blanket (2)
    Knife sharpener

    Glove Box
    First-aid kit supplemented w/Celox
    Virginia state map
    Pen and stickies
    Vehicle manual

    Behind the Back Seats
    Bungee cords (assorted)
    Tiedowns (4)
    Duct tape
    Glow sticks (6)
    Work gloves
    Toilet paper
    Baby wipes
    Safety glasses
    Rags
    Fishing line
    Zip ties, 8" (100)
    Electrical tape
    Sewing kit
    Fire-starting kit
    Water purification drops

    Under the Back Seats
    3600-calorie food rations (3)
    MRE dessert pack (3)
    Datrex water rations, 1/8qt (16)
    Emergency blankets (2)
    12ga Mossberg Cruiser w/5 shells
    Shotgun shell pack w/12 shells
OEM jack and spare tire tool

    Bed Toolbox
    Toolbox w/assorted hand tools
    12V/battery-powered trouble light
    50ft extension cord
    Tarp, 9x12ft
    Cargo net
    Moving blanket
    Nylon rope, 1/2" (100 ft)
    Paracord 550 (2x100ft)
    Hitch w/locking pin and 2 D-ring shackles
    20,000lb recovery strap, 20ft
Access Tools basic vehicle lockout kit
    Bolt cutters
    Wrecking bar
    Axe/large hammer
    Gas can, 2gal
    Halogen work light w/stand
    12V air compressor
    Trash bags, 30gal (20)
    Jumper cables
    Spare fuses
    Tire repair kit

    Bed Side Box
    Road flares, 15-minute (3)

All that and my truck still looks completely empty, with the exception of the (OEM) toolbox in the bed. Great for keeping low-profile in the event something does happen.

I'm still working on adding more stuff. Suggestions for additional items or modifications welcome. :D

Everyone says that until they haven't eaten in five days. Then you start thinking a little differently. I spent ten years destabilizing foreign governments and I always found it amusing how fast a banker or businessman turns into a refugee. Don't be a refugee waiting for handouts from the red cross, be that fat and happy guy selling sh!t on the streetcorner.

I agree. I'll say it again though - I don't prep for a "The Book of Eli" situation. I prep for a grid down situation due to a earthquake on the fault line I live on, or a blizzard that drops 3 feet of snow on us, or a flood - I've lived through two "500 year" floods in my 31-year lifetime. When I was 5, the water was up to our front step.

Don't get me wrong - some folks DO prep for long term survuval, but in my mind, I need to be self-reliant and comfortable for 4 to 6 weeks max, and it's easy to do with minimal investment and labor.
