    hi TW,

please don't hammer me on this 1st off. Ok,idid go through searches on putting 885 coils on. getting diff.views on what to do.Sooo here goes.I have billies all around with TSB rear leafs and wheelers 1.5aal.run 265/75r/16 tires, xtracab truck v6 4x4 offroad. i've since added a CBI receiver hitch, winch(syn rope),plus CBI winch basket. the weight is to much for the stock coils. And handling is not as good neither now. So i think my real qwestion is with the weight should i set billies to .85 or stock setting?? I'm thinking that with the weight i should set the billies to .85.If i had no weight on the front, then i would set them at stock with the 885's. I know i can take the winch off/on,but i would like to just leave it on. Well thanks for any and all input.TW is just agreat resource!

If I remember correctly through the research I've done I think you may need the 886's instead since you have the extra weight in front. I would guess the billies should be at 0. But I could be wrong.

Get 886's if the 885's are sagging , but you should get OME shocks if you are going to run the 886 coils

hey thanks for the repliies. Marco down at DSM thought the 886's would be to stiff being my weight is not like that of heavy steel bumper.I did order the 885's. He said i would be fine at .85 with these coils. But i allways like to get diff.opinions to make sure.thanks.

Preloaded 885's are going to run stiff too

well maybe it won't be to stiff considering i will have the added weight up front. i think the weight i will have is about 130 total. if i don't preload them to .85 i think i will have some sagging.what do you think?

I have a similar setup just with a curt front receiver. I have been having the same debate about the 885 or 886 coils with the 5100's up front. I have a 3" aal in the rear and offload coils at 2.5 with the top plate spacer and with the winch on (which it is most of the time) the front is still sagging a bit. Please post up what you got for lift with all the weight on the front...

well i actually weighed the winch and winch basket, which is 81lbs.
I believe my CBI hitch is 40or45lbs. For a total of 126lbs. I have the fronts set at 2.5 with stock off-rd coils now.And with the above mentioned weight it will sag,and not ride as good.I think the 866 coils will be way to stiff, they are made for 200 plus lbs.So i ordered 855's from DSM. My rear setup is the TSB springs with wheelers AAL.So i'm pretty sure i'm going to go with my 855's,and front billies set to .85. Hopefully this is what i'm looking for.

I am running 885s with my ARB and skid plate only. I'd definitely have 886s if I had a winch as well. Like said above get OME shocks with them.

Just your ARB bumper weighs more than the OP's winch basket and front receiver combined so if you added a winch, you'd have to go 886's. The OP's added accessories aren't all that heavy so the 885's would be fine.

I cut some wires here. Added some wires there.
    Why?

Manufacturer's recommendations. The 886's are a stiff coil, it's better to pair them with the shock that's designed to dampen it. That being said, I know there are a few people running 5100's with 886's without issues, just not recommended.

Same is true of the all the OME coils but the 5100's have proven to be able to dampen the lighter coils just fine.

My thought process what the Ebiachs are essentially 886s with a slightly higher spring rate, right? (Are they like 5mm taller too? Or am I thinking 885 vs 886?) So why would it be fine there? If a stiff coil is the issue why would an even stiffer coil negate that?

I think it's just a marketing ploy. Everybody is always going to recommend using their products with their other products. Honestly, I would think the monotube design would be better as a daily driver as it resists heat and therefore fade, say driving at highway speeds thru construction or something along those lines. Where as the ome would probably be better suited to offroad conditions where speeds are slower.

Not trying to get into mono vs twin, was just curious about the spring pairings. I'll be switching to 886s or ebiachs sometime this summer and I'll be pairing them with 5100s regardless of weather I go toytec or ome.

And I mean daily driver as in what gets you to and from work everyday, regardless of how hard you wheel.

Eibachs are softer and shorter than 886's. Eibachs are 620 #/in, 886's are around 650 I believe. I don't know the exact dimensions but I'd guess 886's are at least 15mm taller than the Eibachs also.

Technically speaking, Eibach recommends pairing their coils with the Bilstein shock and OME recommends pairing their coils with their shocks. I've noticed that the 5100's seem to get stiffer over time and I wouldn't want them on a stiffer coil for that reason. The Eibachs are boarder line too stiff for an unloaded Tacoma in my opinion.

Not knowing all the ins and outs of the monotube vs. twin, there might be something in the construction of the Nitrochargers to prevent a hard top out with the heavy, tall springs. Or, for all I know, it could all be marketing. :notsure:

Got you. I had the spring rates backwards. That's why it wasn't making sense.
