Help picking a Tonneau cover...

Does anyone have an opinion on the Access Roll up cover vs any of the Extang covers? I've narrowed it down to the following two but was hoping to ask current owners their opinions and find out if there are any red flags with each model...

well, not that you mentioned it, but I would not buy a fold-a-cover again. The hinges were not put on straight and it doesn't provide much water protection

I like the idea of a solid cover

however, the access cover is much simpler to roll us, but the extang has support bars that I would find benificial (lots of downforce on a cover)

 

While both are vinyl covers, you are comparing two different styles.

The Access being Velcro sided, the cross bars are attached to the vinyl, maintains use of your track system.

The Tuff Tonno is a "ziplock" style attachment. The cross bars are removed and set aside. Track use may be limited.

All things considered on a soft vinyl cover, the best choice out of any style or manufacturer is going to be the Access. My second choice would be the Extang Trifecta.

 

I have the TonnoPro tri fold, it's pretty sturdy and keeps water out fairly well. Looks good too for a $200 cover off ebay.

To answer your original question, I've had 2 access covers and they were both excellent.

I am now on my 4th Access Original cover on my 4th truck. (3 full size Fords and now on my new Tacoma)
They have all been excellent.

 

Recently I installed a TonnoPro Tri Fold on my 2012 DCSB and I am very happy with the quality of the cover and the price.

 

Guess I'm one of the few with the Tuff Tonno. This is my second Extang tonneau, the first being the really cheap snap cover, but both have done quite well and I'm satisfied with the quality. Both covers aged well and I've never had a leak. That being said, a couple of detractors of the TuffTonno,,, the bows do hold the cover up, but it gives a bit of a bubble look to the back, it's not flat across the bed like the Access, and you need to deal with the bows when you roll up the cover; the J-hook seal does seal well, but it doesn't roll up as nicely as the velcro'd Access or the snap Extang that I had, ends up taking two people to roll it up tightly and get it secured since the J-hooks stiffen up the cover sides; the side rail tie-downs can still be used, but the cover rail hold downs restrict the movement of the tie downs to just one of the three areas that the two cover rail hold downs mark off.

Overall I am happy with the Extang TuffTonno as it was quite a bit cheaper then the Access, but I think overall the Access would be my choice if I wanted a rollup cover and cost wasn't a big consideration.

 

Got an Access cover on a 2000 Ranger used, kept the truck until 2010 and about 125K. The cover was a bit faded but did it's job.
