Stepside, any disadvantage?

I have a stepside and there not that bad. I have a tool box for it so its not killer to find one. And softtopper make there soft tops for the stepsides. It all come down to how much and what you use ur bed for.

 

I'm planning on hauling a lot of building supplies, and also using it for truck camping, so the fact that it's not long enough for me to lay down is a bit of a problem.

The hunt continues....

 

If that's your plans for the truck i definitely wouldn't get a stepside

but seriously OP, you lose about 8" of width so if your going to be hauling stuff all the time and need maximum capacity don't go for them. however if less than load so to speak the steps are useful to help load.

i imagine finding campers would be difficult but i haven't tried

 

I purchased a stepside (one in my avatar) but after I had trouble finding a canopy for it I ended up looking around for a new box. I found a mint box for 600, swapped it out myself. Super easy, if you find the truck you want, low miles etc...maybe think of this. Here's a link to my swap if you're interested.

They're not really rare... every non-prerunner 2wd Taco has one.

My old Taco had one, and it's honestly the best feeling column shifter I've ever used.

 

this is my step side.. i feel like i have plenty of bed space with the step side, i haul my 4 wheeler in it and have hauled mulch and topsoil in it several times. the downfall- there arent many used campers and bed covers for these things. why? because the people that have them dont want to get rid of them lol. almost have to buy a new one unless you get lucky somewhere. i bought mine brand new in 2002 and the mods are as follows- 3 inch fabtech suspension lift, 17 inch Mickey Thompson bullet hole classic IIs, 285s BFG ATZ, Spectre Cold Air intake, aftermarket clutch, westin bull bar with foggers (not shown in the picture). i love mine and probably wont ever sell it.

yep. Also if you plan to get a cap and sleep in the back, you'll have less room. I'm 6'3 and able to sleep in the back if I sleep diagonally.

 

Ya, I didn't mind the look of at all either, I actually got a lot of comments.

 

I've enjoyed my stepside bc it doesnt look just like everyone else's Tacomas. Even after they are modded they still don't look just like every other tacoma on the road. Ive also seen camper tops for them.

 

Don't dont don't get a step side. I had a flareside ranger for years and as already stated, impossible to find accessories and you lose bed space. I considered doing a swap with a junkyard regular bed.

Never been a fan of step-sides on trucks, but I think we can agree that the step-side tundra is the ugly step child.

I did wound up getting a stepside and wasn't even looking for one.

 

Imho stepsides are a little fugly especially 1st gen tundras. But if you want itj ust for the step just get sliders use mine as a step more than as sliders.

 

I use my tires as a step.
