^The 2.8L diesel is being made right now in Thailand, branded Duramax2. The extra time is probably needed for tuning to accommodate dirtier US diesel and adding equipment like DPF and DEF to meet US emissions requirements.

The Chevy Cruze diesel already gets longer range than the Golf TDI in Car and Driver testing, and I'd trust the Cruze's reliability more than any VAG car nowadays. At least when something minor breaks, the Chevy dealer doesn't have to bend you over in "service position"...

Picture of the 3.6L engine cover. It looks just as cheap as the camoflaged prototype photographed a few month ago. :p The intake filter housing is in a good place, though, negating the need for a CAI.

liking the GMC version, led light/projectors, 2.8 duramax, and more power from v6 then Tacoma, it looks really nice on paper and in the video/pictures

never owned a GMC/Chevy/Ford but with these features and motors it might be nice, i wonder if they do the 6year/100,000mile powertrain like they are on the Chevy Colorado

I saw pics of the GMC today and it looked pretty good. 302 HP is what has my interest and I would guess I'm not alone. I would prefer Toyota hands down over govt motors. My hope is these trucks light a fire under Toyota to make some improvements. They've become complacent with no competition.

I can't wait for someone like edge or sct to make a tuner for the baby duramax delete all that emissions bullshit :burnrubber:

Awww hell what am I thinking. It won't happen. Doesn't hurt to dream though

tacoma has been reigning since 2005, im sure the their 2015 model will be a huge upgrade to compete with GM once again. Maybe they will do a 2015 revealing at nyc auto show or LA auto show

It's very interesting they are putting a diesel in it. I wish toyota would put a diesel in the tacoma. But that dura max engine is duracrap. Definitely wouldn't consider buying a duramax engine. Plus government motors so I don't think I'll be considering that anytime soon. Now if ford came a powerstroke ranger. Then there would definitely be some interest from me. Even a Dakota with a cummins i4 engine would be pretty nice. At this point I should just beg my dad for his powerstroke...

There are plenty of happy duramax owners out there. The duramax technology was designed by Isuzu, one of the most respected builders of diesel engines? Sounds like you talking out your a double s?

    +1

When I replaced my Tundra in '05 when I was planning on buying a toy hauler, I was faced with:
Cummins... the best available Diesel wrapped in the worst sheetmetal available.
Powerjoke... the best pickup with the worst available Diesel engine (newer Powerstrokes are better, the Navistar was terrible).
Duramax... best balance between a solid engine and a decent truck.
The early model... LB7... had problems with the injectors.
The LLY was a solid engine.
The upgraded LBZ was more stout, only issue was the glow plugs were prone to breaking. They were over-voltaged so people didn't have to wait to start their engines. A recall took care of that VERY quickly.

I think I want to get a taco access cab... then in 6 or 8 years when GM works the kinks out of their new platform and engine get a double cab diesel so I can tow my access cab taco when it turns into an offroad rock buggy. :) Seems like a legit plan lol

I'll have over 300k on the old girl when that baby duramax comes out. Ill definitly be checking it out. I heard someone say those engines are already produced in Europe but don't quote me on that one.

Thinking these domestic turds are a threat to Tacoma is like saying that documentary movie with the guy who eats only McDonalds for a year and his health goes to shit,
    is a threat to McDonalds.

There were very few people actually effected or swayed by that film.
Just like very few will be effected or swayed by these new domestics.

If you don't ever eat McDonalds and watch that film... you continue to never eat McDonalds. You are smart enough to figure out on your own it is not a good choice.
(You drive a Toyota, look at the new Chevy/Ford and continue driving a Toyota)

If you eat a shit ton of McDonalds on a weekly basis and watch the film... you continue to eat a shit ton of McDonalds. You are too stupid to realize it is bad in the first place, no movie is going to make you any smarter.
(You only drive Ford/Chevy cause your a price shopper, patriot, etc... and too stupid to realize you get what you pay for)

If you are someone who rarely ever eats McDonalds becasue you know its not a healthy choice, but every once in a while do it cause it's tasty and your not sure just how bad it is... you are the very small percentage of people who watched the movie and decided to rule it out completely.
(You know Toyota makes a better product, but at what cost? You are not stupid, but just not sure you will actually utilize all of the benefits of the Toyota all the time. You maybe have never owned a truck and are a first time buyer. You could make a strong case for either brand and price/practicality pushes you into a domestic)

    Thats how it boils down.
Domestic drivers will continue driving domestics.
Toyota drivers will continue driving Toyotas.
The conquest or first timers will buy a few more domestics instead because these new models are so "great." Then half of those will be smart enough to get burned once and if they stay in a truck market... will buy a Toyota.

Yes, the 2.8 Duramax has been available in many other markets for several years now.

People who keep saying that this new Colorado is a "first year" truck and is untested, are apparently not aware that this exact truck and engine options have been on sale in Thailand, the UK, India, the Middle East, and Australia for more than 3 years.
