And now where things get dumb.. the mounting for the rack is pretty straightforward and easy, i had to adjust the mounts to the very front/back respectively. No problem. right?

The front seemed the most logical to start with, it went on no problems whatsoever.[IMG]

The rear is where things get dumb.. It's like either the basket is too short, or the OEM crossbars are too far apart, and i could not mount it as easily as the front, i had to improvise and just "make it work for the time being until i could get to a dremel where i'll cut off the part that makes the rack bulge up..

I have pm'd sytfu510, as he's the only person on TW with the same rack i have mounted on the OEM roof rack, I'm waiting on a reply but there was someone on toyotanation who has the same setup i do and he had to dremel to make it fit as well so i'll prob do the same.

Link to the dremel solution for reference:

Hey guys. I definitely wanted the OEM roof rack as well when I was deciding on my set up. I also wanted a roof basket. Cham, its the crossbar distance of the OEM not lining up w/the MegaWarrior's specs. When determining what basket/rack system to go with, you need to find out what distances are acceptable, for whatever basket you are considering, center-to-center b/w crossbars. Keep in mind the OEM crossbars when in the load position, are static. I asked another member on here before I had mine (Team Flatline, thanks again!!) to measure, from center-to-center, b/w crossbars on the OEM roof rack. It's 43". Most baskets will give you 3 or 4 acceptable fitment distances for the crossbars. Also keep in mind the weight limit on each rooftop system, and factor the weight of the basket itself into how much stuff you throw up there. The mod looks like it' will work but not sure if it'll effect the basket weight limit itself. I dont think it'll effect the rack system limits.
This looks long winded now that I look at it. Lol. Hope it makes sense. And. Apologies if something like this is in this thread already....I know this type of info is elsewhere in these threads.

Oh yea. If you dig around on http://www.etrailer.com/ there's a bunch of info/specs on baskets, crossbars, etc. There's others but I found a bunch of info there.

Excellent. I like that method too. I'd have done the same if I had the same gear. Like I said. That's part of the reason I used the Thule crossbars. I wanted the OEM but had just taken Thules off wife's Jeep and they were laying around. Fuck it. They're going on!

I'm partial to Yakima, if you already had a roof rack I would suggest using it, but since the load warrior is too short for oem, going with a yakima cross member would allow you to fit the basket without extra cost of an extension.

I wonder though, can you use yakima products on thule bars and vise versa? I know my yakima Kayak mount seems to be made for round bars. If they are not interchangeable, maybe it's worth choosing the brand cross bar by the accessories you want to add. That being said, Yakima is designed so that the ends of the basket work as cross bars for other items to mount to, and you can buy cross bars for the basket as well. if thule accessories have to mount to square bars, then you can't mount them to the basket

Gobi roof rack. Icon coilovers, Icon tubular UCAs, FOX 2.0 rear shocks, Icon 3-leaf progressive AAL.
I went with a Gobi Rack. It mounts directly to the Cab top in the OEM holes, with Three brackets on each side. It has wires ran through the tubes. Gobi supplies new trim with pre-drilled holes. This trim replaces the rubber trim. Then if you want to get rid of the rack, you can replace the original trim back into the gutter. You can see all the part in the first picture.

I will get a better picture. The picture looked better when I looked at it on the phone screen.

Here's my latest project...Yakima LoadWarrior mounted to my rigid tonneau cover with landing pads #6, control towers and 48" bars. I'm experimenting with my spare mounted there with the Yakima mount as well. Although not a roof rack I thought it was in keeping with the spirit of the thread, check it out....

Have seen mixed reviews of the strength of the OEM Roof Rack.

Currently I have a Thule 450 + bar on our family ride but thinking of moving it over to my Tacoma.

Would I be happier getting the OEM Rack and using my existing setup or getting the Thule 480 Traverse Foot Pack.

We use it to carry either 2 bikes or 2 kayaks most times.

Can you post more pics of that Gobi rack? Possibly one from the side. I'm seriously considering one myself. What lights are those?

How you liking that Gobi. I REALLY like their racks, but $1,300 is a lot. I could get a frontrunner with extra bars and some accessories. But the Gobi looks soooo good.

I've been needing a roof rack... and I just took a welding class... you know what this means? Project time.

I'm probably going to make the basket, then take a look at mounting it directly to the factory holes. About how far from flat and level would you guys say the front mounting point is? 25-30 degrees?

You can make the front adjustable like the Gobi rack.
