Have been looking in a ton of threads on lifts for 2WD taco and have decided on the Bilstein 5100's. Will set it to the 2.5" but what is the best way to add to the rear to get the same height lift as the front. I do not plan on taking it off road. It is my daily driver to work and such. Added new 18" rims with bigger tires but just want to put a little more distance between the tires and fenders. Don't want to spend a ton of money but I want it done right. Here is the truck with new tires and rims. Need some input please. Thanks!

Nice truck! To be honest, I wouldn't set the bilsteins at 2.5 tho. Im currently running them at 2.5 with a 1 inch block in the back. Although my truck sits level it rides soooo stiff. I feel every bump in the road. Tomorrow I'm actually taking it in to get the block removed and the front adjusted to .85. I like my tacoma to ride nice and smooth! Just wish someone would have given me a heads up when I bought them a while back.

Interested in seeing where this goes, looking to get OME heavy duty coils and 5100's too. But ive been reading the lift it gives I will need longer break lines (gonna go SS) and replace the stock control arm. That's a lot of money to do all at once not even including the rear.

Thanx for the info on the stiffness of the ride when set on 2.5". That's another thing I was wondering but never saw anyone comment on. I will probably do like you did and go ahead and set the 1500's at 2.5" and put put 1500's with 1" on the rear and try them for a while and just see how it rides. I know you can't have a smooth ride and height too without throwing a lot of money at it. Only reason I was planning to put 1500's on the rear instead of the 1" block is that I would be replacing all 4 shocks at the same time and figure they need to be replaced soon anyways.

That's why I don't want to go to a 3" lift because of other issues like brake lines etc. When I first started reading on how's the best way to lift it was very confusing as to which way to go but the more I researched I figured the 1500's was my best way to go. This forum has given me a lot of insight and good ideas on things I have done to my truck and am going to do.

If it's your DD why not just set the front to 1.75? That will level it out without having to touch the rear. Mine are set to 2.5 and the ride is fine, TSB springs in the rear and it's almost level.

Nice looking truck! I like the height of it. I measured my truck now and the rear is about 1.5" higher that the front so I am going to order me the front Bilstein's next week and put them on and see where i'm at then. I will probably set it at the 2.5" because I want a little more height to it. If I need to bring the back up an inch I will just put rear Bilstein's on it I guess. I'd rather do that than the 1" block. My 2010 has the 3 leaf springs on rear but according to the TBS, if I read it right, mine should have had a recall also but I never got one. I bought it new later in 2010.

Even though it say 0 to 1"? If not I guess it will either be a 1" block or an AAL.
    Any thoughts on the 2?

I just installed Billies on all four and set the front at 1.75. My truck is perfectly even. That is what I originally wanted but after driving this last week I decided to bump up the rear with a 1.5 aal. The truck rides pretty good but I do feel more road through the steering wheel. I am glad I did not go 2.5.
My question to add to this thread now is what rear aal is recommended for a good ride and only bump up 1 to 1.5????

    It says 0 to 1"
It means if your lift is 0 to 1" you can use this shock.

You are stock, so that would fit. But it does not mean you'll gain an inch.

Get a 1.5 AAL for the back and run bilstein 5100's. Its a decent ride and not too expensive. If you set the front at 2.5, a 1.5 aal will look fine in the back. It will settle some and you will be just about even. Ditch the block idea. Thats a cheap, bad ride, and not good offroad. If you intend to do hardcore offroad i would look into other suspensions, but this will be just fine for alot of us mild offroaders & daily drivers.

I'll sell you my old Pro Comp block lift. It was only on for about 4-5 months.

I'm driving a 2008 4 cyl with 192K miles that was a work truck since I bought it almost new. It has a Revtek 3" front spacer 1.25" Block Lift installed when I bought it. I liked the stiffness when hauling now it's just a daily Driver and won't be hauling.

The shocks are original and are gone. I've ordered 4 Bilstein 5100 shocks and will be installing, I'd like to keep near that 3" Lift up front to clear my 265/75r16 like I see you are running. I was going to set the 5100's at 0. And keep the spacers, would setting at 2.5 and ditching the spacers be the way to go? I have been reading lots of threads on the topic, but why will it be better? Thanks.

Just took the block out and set my front at .85. Truck sits perfectly level and rides so much better! Maybe try an AAL if you go 2.5 up front.

For the front, Bilstein 5100's at 2.5" and stock coils will be fine. If you're not offroading, you're fine with stock coils. You could also use Eibach coils and set the Bilsitien's to 0" and achieve the exact same lift, but with a better ride.

For the rear, the best, and most expensive solution is to replace the entire leaf pack. The second best option is to simply add-a-lef to your existing leaf springs. Blocks suck, IMO

I have billies set at 1.75 in front ( 22.5 inches hub to fender) and an AAL and 1.5 in. block in rear ( 25in hub to fender) this Tuesday I'm setting my billies to the 2.5 setting.. I have too much rake for my liking.. but a 1 in block and billies set at 1.75 and you would be close to level I would think

I appreciate all the feedback and it has all been great, just what I was looking for:headbang:. I have made my decision to go billies in front set at 2.5" and a 1.5" AAL in the rear. I think that is going to give me the look I am looking for, If it gives me to still a ride I just can't stand then I will make some adjustments but I believe it will be fine. Plan to order them this next week and will update with the progress!!
