The no transmission dipstick thing is another one that's becoming common. BMW, Mercedes, Infinity/Nissan and a few others are all doing it now. They all claim lifetime fluid.

The tranny thing doesn't bother me so much, since you shouldn't have to check it often unless something is really wrong. From the procedure writeup it appears easy enough to check so long as you have a simple scan tool to check temp - then its just like filling a manual trans or diff, add fluid till it overflows.

If you want to see really annoying - pop the hood of any late model BMW. No engine oil dipstick! After an oil change you apparently have to count off the quarts and then use a scan tool to check the level electronically. Bean counter penny pinching at its worst.

NOOO..... Sounds like Toyota needs to put them in. Or they can redesign their 9+ year old body style and put in a more efficient motor, something newer than a 5 spd auto. Toyota could have done this long ago, but all the other mid-size trucks are complete turds, so they didn't have to. :D

It still amazes me the 2nd Gen Tacoma is still out-classed by the 1st Gen Tundra. Hell, Toyota was planning to move to the 2nd Gen Tundra in 2005, so they should have matched the 2005+ Tacoma to the 1st Gen Tundra.

Why not offer leather in the Tacoma? A locking tailgate, heated mirrors, power rear slider, padded access cab rear seats, full instrumentation, column shifter, a V8. All of those were on the 1st Gen Tundra, why cheap out across the board for the 2nd Gen Tacoma. All the parts were on the shelf.

Here we are in the year 2014 and the Tacoma is still out-classed by a 2005 Tundra. It's kind of pathetic.

Bought a Gen I Tundra a month ago, gonna sell the Tacoma and get $10k in my pocket. If I knew in 2012 what I know now I would have bought the Gen I Tundra in the first place.

Obviously you'll be putting the Baja suspension on it and not recalibrating the VSC

Ha! I knew you'd chime in from your Mom's basement. I'll play nice since I feel sorry for you. Actually, I'd like to put the Baja suspension on this Tundra. The Taco has much better aftermarket support.

This Tundra is so silky smooth compared to the Tacoma. Quieter cabin, more comfortable buckets, leather front and back, heated mirrors, nice V8 but it has a timing belt. No gotdamn driveline shudder, smooth as silk. Has better stock ground clearance by an inch. And it gets the same fuel mileage as the 4.0 with that sweet engine note from the 4.7l V8.

Do it , do the Baja

and don't feel sorry for me because although I actually am sitting in the basement right now , it's at my house I built a couple years ago , my big TV is down here

The Tacoma is nice but for some reason Toyota hasn't refined it like they should have. They could have made it the same offroad capable but refined it.

I suggest that you go and purchase a 2005 Tundra.

Opps, I should have read further. I see you did. Good for you.

They certainly don't have mass appeal that's for sure. I like the look because it's unique. There's maybe a couple thousand trucks that have the 4WD Limited Stepside package. And it's a badass truck. I know badass trucks because I've had three Toyota trucks, two Tacomas.
