I am interested in buying a catback for my 2014 off-road, DCSB. I have had a 2012 DCSB with a borla muffler only and liked the sound, but I will be adding a volant intake with ram air scoop this time and want the best performance and sound.
I have reviewed many videos but am having a hard time hearing the true sound.
I like borla, but am also interested in banks or TRD. Any information or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Let me know about your experiences with cat backs/ intakes. Thanks.:)

I prefer the magnaflow off road or take the MBRP muffler and put a turn down on it before the rear end. I would angle it toward the outside of the truck some though. I don't see the purpose of the CAI. Other than some fancy tubing and a hefty price tag it draws air from the same place as the stock box unless you go with the scoop. All basically ambient temp in my experience.

The only one I've heard in person is the TRD. I like the sound of it.

That said I like my truck to be quiet so I'm not in the market. If you are looking for performance upgrades with a exhaust and intake the benefit will be minimal to non-existent with those two upgrades. Unless you are running a S/C you won't notice much more (if any) power or MPG. I "personally" would spend my money on something else that would have more of a benefit. If you are going for sound then I say go for it. If you are going for performance you might be disappointed with the diminished return from your investment.

Check out Aero Exhaust. They make stuff tuned for v6 engines. You can get the whole exhaust or just muffler. I think they sound great. Only other ones i've heard are TRD, which are ok and flowmasters, which i don't particularly care for on a v6 or 4 cyl.

One of the things I like about FlowMaster is they make a kit with dual exhausts. Ya, I fully realize there is no performance benefit to duals, but it just makes the truck more "balanced" to my eye.

The kit is over $500 everywhere I looked, but when I went to the local shop that sells FlowMaster the guy happily gave me a $300 price installed.

It has a nice low rumble at idle, not very loud, roars a bit as you get over 2000 RPM.

Youtube has many videos with various mufflers on Tacomas.

I have the TRD cat back with the AFE CAI. Throaty sound, slightly louder with CAI then stock. But still subtle at highway speeds, not a horrible drone in the cab (the wife doesn't complain).

Why don't you just buy a muffler. Why spend money for pipe that's already on the truck.

I really like my TRD Catback. It sounds pretty good, not overly loud but gives enough growl to distinguish from stock exhaust.

Check out Gibson they got a good product with a low rumble at start up and goes almost unnoticed with normal driving. Absolutely zero drone as well.

TRD. Not Über loud, but enough that it lets you know its there. I really notice it when I mash the skinny petal between 2-3k rpm. Really nice growl but not annoying.

I have both the TRD intake and exhaust. Nice sound, absolutely no performance or MPG gains. Didn't lose any either.

I had the TRD and didn't like it. It was slightly louder during normal driving but when I gave it WOT it sounded stock. Total waste of money in my opinion.

ur better off just doing the same as before........... weld a muffler to stock pipes.

The intake will NOT make u need a less restrictive exhaust..... No need to go up in size unless force fed.

Preface: I have not read the replies.

Answer: Stock exhaust. Leave it alone. An exhaust system is going to give you negligible gains in HP. Like, almost nothing. Why pay for no gains in HP? For a sound?

Okay. If you'd like to give money away for nothing, I'll PM you my address.

Speaking from experience. I paid $1500 for a Stillen cat back in my '04 G35. All it did was make my car sound better. It'll do the same or less for your truck. Hind sight being 20/20, leave it alone.

I dont understand.......... its his money, let him get a muffler he likes the sound of, and an intake.

I ran a quiet muffler before and its not as fun.... Sure it was a sleeper, but I missed the rumble
