My first post, so please take it easy on the rookie . . . I have a 2008 SR5 double cab long bed with 95k on it . .the front stock (tokitco) shocks have never been replaced (rear have been a few years ago) . .but I am getting new 265/75r16 Cooper At3 tires in a couple weeks and also some new TRD 16 black alloy FJ rims . . . so I thought it might be wise to replace the shocks at the same time. I do not plan on lifting it at this time . . .From digging through these threads most are focused on lift kits, etc . . and I am honestly not too educated on this stuff . . but my research is showing 3 options floating to the top of my decision tree . . Bilstein 4600 or Bilstein 5100 (would I set these at zero/o . . or could I raise them a bit? with no lift kit) . . or the guy at Autoanything was telling me to go with RanchoRS5000?

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated

Avoid Rancho rs5000. If you want Rancho, go with the 9000 series. Bilsteins are good, however when I had 5100s they leaked at about 40k. Maybe KYB if you want stock height. Cheaper and are as good a bilsteins in my opinion. They're a Japanese brand.

Just to add, I've installed them on two 1st gent tacomas, two 3rd gen 4runners and 2nd set on my 01 corolla that has 390k.

Bilstein 5100's on all four corners. Front set @ 0 with OME 883x coils. Alcon leaf springs. Viper Alarm. Wet Okole seat covers. WeatherTech Floor liners front and back. Oem Toyota chrome exhaust tip. ARE Shell. America Outlaw Wheels.
I have run the Rancho RS5000 on my other trucks and had no problems and they rode great. I now have the Bilstein 5100's all around. They are a great shock. I have had my rears leak and replaced under warranty. I have my front set at 0 with the OME 883x coil springs and it rides so much better then stock. It did raise me about 1 1/2in. to level it out nicely. I am vary happy with them providing I don't have any more leak issues. If I have any more issues with the rears leaking I MAY put the Ranchos on the rears .

Thanks for the updates . . . and your truck is Not lifted correct? So did you have to set the rear bilsteins at certain setting (or zero as well)

No lift just leveled the front . With the Bilsteins there is no adjustment in the rear.

Are the OME 883x coils slightly longer than than the stock coils then?

Youll want to go with either the 4600 or the 5100 Bilsteins, or maybe even Fox 2.0. Id avoid the Rancho 5000s and any shop suggesting them ;)

The 4600 Bilstein is the yellow shock and offers no lift options. It rides a little tighter than the 5100 on road.

The 5100 Bilstein is a zinc coated shock with a few optional height settings. I would suggest putting it on one level up from the bottom, it will give you less than 1" of lift but provides the best ride.

The FOX 2.0 is a shock that is similarly sized to the Bilstein, but comes as a complete assembled package with new springs, as well as having a threaded coilover body that allows you to dial in the height from 0-3"

Let me know if I can be of any help, we stock all of these options for the Tacoma and have had great results with them.

Yes they are. They will level out your truck with out reloading your springs. That is why you set the Bilsteins to 0. They give you a great ride.

This is getting me confused,or still undecided on my choice of new shocks.
    At first i was just going for KYB,then Monroes,then Bilstein Bilstein,and a Bilstein 4600
In my area,no ones ,even Toyota Dealers will not install exceot there original ones, and the other garages will put only there Napa Monroes and KYB
    So don know anymore,,

I found another Toyota Dealer, not far from my home that will install whatever i want.
So i will go probably Bilstein 5100 or Bilstein 4600
    Not sure yet
