I didn't have time to try to fix it yet. I have been working in the field from a hotel 7 days a week for the last 3 weeks and I still have 2-3 weeks to go.

According to many on this forum, it seems to work OK, I might just be abusing it a bit too much with all the forestry road mileage I'm putting on my Taco. The lock doesn't seem to like dirt.

New 2014 Tacoma, New Tonnoeau cover & new PL5500 Pop&lock, Guess which one broke first after one day?? Key just spun in the lock . Took 5 mins to install, 1.5 hrs to Drill out, "Tonnoeau cover was down". They "pop&lock" are sending new upgraded model 5400 Should I trust them. Is the 5400 any more reliable? Oh and the inside of new tailgate has very sharp unfinished edges several paper cuts, remember to wear safety Gloves!.

Several TW members have reported problems with Pop & Lock models. I don't know how prevalent the problem is.

Amen about the gloves. I nearly sliced my finger off installing mine. Got blood all over my new truck.

I've never been a big fan of pop & lock. Their stuff has always been 'just good enough' to get the job done, but still felt cheap for the price. I had issues with my 5500 - sent it back, they sent me a new one. New one also had issues. Took it off and threw the factory one back on. I probably wouldn't waste my time with them if they didn't have the market cornered. (which is probably why they can get away with putting out sub par items).

hi! I just wanted to follow up with those that have this kit. I was thinking about getting the kit with the backup camera for my 05 Tacoma. I just wanted to see if those that had problems did they get resolved? Was it install error, abuse, got a bad apple or is the product just garbage? The whole kit runs $250 with camera. Seems it has good reviews but I just came across this and now I'm on the fence about buying it. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

I just installed the PL5400 yesterday. Overall very simple to do and just followed these instructions:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s48fimgxYI8

I also noticed that the rod you had to flip over slightly rubbed as another poster mentioned. I left it as is, maybe I should have bent it a bit or taped up that spot with some electrical tape but not a big deal. The lock cylinder was quite stiff after the initial code keying, maybe it needs time to break in. Anyone have suggestions for a good lubricant for the lock? The unit itself seemed ok, a bit nervous reading all these threads about shoddy workmanship though. Hit or miss appears to be the case for these Pop n Locks. I guess will have to wait to see if it lasts a winter, -35C/-40C temps and salted roads up here should give it quite the test. I will keep this thread updated if anything happens. Next up is a hard folding tonneau cover, still researching Extangs, Bakflips, Undercovers etc.....

Oh and those screws that hold down the tailgate cover. I've got a couple that seem to keep turning and not completely tighten. Maybe those plastic tabs the screws attach to underneath is stripped? I was extra careful while installing and removing them so not sure why.
