Some seem obsessed with the idea that Toyota's with diesel engines exist elsewhere. Of course, what happens in other countries, with vastly different mileage or emission standards, means nothing here. This country has it's own standards, as does pickup truck buyers here. A poll (petition?) was created some months ago which omitted a "no diesel" option. This poll goes to the heart of the matter (diesel, yes or no).

So, would a diesel engine option greatly influence your future vehicle purchase decisions?

Nope. I'm probably going full size next time but if I wasn't a diesel wouldn't be my deciding factor of one truck over another.

Having used Hilux diesels all over the world, I'm a big fan.

I'm new to the Tacoma; I've had my '96 for only a week. I got this a hunting/camping/ fun truck, not a DD.

I'm actualy looking for an SUV for a DD, and have been leaning heavily towards the Mercedes ML350 BluTech. I keep vehicles for 10+ years and the fuel economy and longevity of a diesel suits my needs.

If Toyota offerd the 4Runner with a clean diesel at a reasonable premium, it would be a serious contender. Without a diesel option, its not in the running.

Bottom line, a diesel option is THE key factor in my next new vehicle purchace decision.

I just bought a Jeep Liberty with the 2.8 liter diesel. The torque is awesome as is the relative fuel economy (not 30 mpg, but I am working on that). If Toyota came out with a diesel 4Runner (I don't really want, nor need a pick-up), I would be all over it.

I think a diesel would help sway the people to like Toyota more in the states. I would also help towing and torque, but a v8 would also be nice...
Rolling coal and the sound of the turbo/ compressions would be a plus too.:D

That sounds like the right size to put in a Tacoma.
Id like to see a Duramax too. It almost seems more reasonable because it too is a Japanese-American merged company.

Next truck will be a 6.7 CTD due to lack of diesel Toyota models. Taco can be trail truck. Test drove a 2012 2500 but looking at an 09. Also test drove a 2.0 TDI Jetta, looks like fun too.

Electronic fuel injection 2, a hydraulics, and an electrical and I'm done, then I'll be looking towards buying SOMETHING diesel.

I don't see the point of a diesel in a smaller truck like the Tacoma.
