Generalspringkc.com HD Leaf Springs

I picked up some General Spring HD leaf springs from Generalspringkc.com. If you are looking for OEM replacement springs these fit the bill. The exact product I purchased was http://www.generalspringkc.com/product_p/90-297hd.htm . I figured I would do a review since I couldn't find anything on these anywhere. I will also follow up with long term reviews later.

Reason I chose them: looking for increased load capability with minimal ride height increase. After talking with them this is exactly what they offered. I was told to expect about 2" lift and it settling to 1 1/2" later on.

The order went well I ordered late on Thursday and they were delivered on Tuesday to Oklahoma. No complaints at all.

The install was pretty straight forward. Needed a 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm socket and 19mm combination wrench . Also a breaker bar, jack stands and a jack. I also had vice grips, a couple screwdrivers (for leverage), and a tire iron. Would have had beer if it wasn't a mid-day Tuesday.

I referenced the AAL install page for guidance. The biggest difference is I needed help getting the front bushing out of place (hence the screwdrivers and a buddy).

Impressions: ride quality is nice the wife likes it better now. It is more firm but feels great. Handles better in the corners and the inside rear wheel seems to skip less when turning and accelerating.

I'm considering these too. I just had one of the stock leafs break. Not sure if I would want the HD set or not though. I already have 5100s, so I guess I can raise the front up to match?

 

You don't have to raise the front. I like the rake look so I may raise it just a bit or leave it as it is. Ride is great so far.

 

If they settle to 1 1/2" down the road, these would be perfect replacement for TSB springs as TSB springs usually sit about an inch higher than non-TSB springs.

Hopefully these are heavier duty than OEM springs?

Is there any other reason than price why you choose these over Wheeler's HD leafs?

I'm looking into what options I have replacing my sagging TSB pack and these are the only two I found so far as I don't want any lift. Thanks.

I have to do some hub to fender measurements to see how mine compares to where you are at now.

 

Why would you get these when OME Dakar's are just $20 more per side?

 

Aren't Dakar's 2.5 - 3" lift?

I do not want lift, just heavier duty replacement springs.

I was under the impression Dakars give around 2.5" lift which is not what I'm looking for. Hope that makes more sense.

Well just put the quad in the back. It dropped about an inch or so with the 700 lbs back there. Other than that they are doing well. I've been out of state a bit so haven't had time to put a lot of miles on them.

No squeaking from them so far. Will try and get an update on them this weekend.

 

Awesome. Thanks for your reply. The reason I ask is because I did the wheelers leaf pack replacement on my 99 Tacoma and they squeaked from the minute I installed them. Just didn't wont to have the same thing happen again , if you know what I mean ?

 

im thinking about getting these for my 03. Did you get the USA made or Mexican made ones? wonder if there is any difference in quality or just in price

 

I'd be interested to see how these hold up after a year or so of using the truck as a truck. They look just exactly like the TSB 4 leaf pack (ok ok 3 leaf + overload) and those died on me within a year

Forgot to ask while I was on the phone - did they come with both sets of bushings?
