Here is an example:

As we have reported on these pages before, it looks as though Ford’s Mercury division doesn’t have a life expectancy after 2012. While Ford is still optimistic about the brand’s future, Mercury suppliers have revealed that their supply orders simply stop after 2012.

Ford delays launch of new F-150

"With sales of full-size pickups in a steep decline, Ford Motor Co. said Friday it is delaying the launch of its new, redesigned Ford F-150 pick-up by two months.

The full-size pick-up, which had been due to enter showrooms in early fall will not come out in late fall, instead."

Honda overtakes Ford as #3 brand in U.S., gunning for Chevrolet’s #2 spot

"The Ford and Chevrolet brands are drastically revamping their lineups in the face of record-high gas prices, but that North American turnaround could be coming a few years too late. Toyota is already the number one selling brand in the U.S. — followed by Chevrolet — and, as of April, Honda has bumped Ford out of the number three spot.

According to Automotive News, the Honda brand tallied 437,102 retail sales through April, while the Ford brand has only managed about 421,000 retail sales during the same period. If you include fleet sales — which makes up 35 percent of Ford’s business and virtually zero percent of Honda’s — Ford still has the overall lead on the Japanese automaker.

However, that 16,000 unit lead will likely widen over the next month as Ford continues to rely on larger vehicles for the volume of its sales. Thanks to economical vehicles such as the Fit, CR-V and Civic Hybrid, Honda sales are up 3.6 percent this year while the overall industry is down 9.2 percent. On the other side of the coin, Ford recently announced that it will be slashing production by as much as 20 percent this year as demand for its vehicles continues to sag.

Ford admittedly doesn’t have enough small or medium-sized vehicles in its current lineup to compete in today’s economic environment.

Chevrolet still has about a 30,000 unit lead over Honda, but industry experts say that margin could evaporate by the end of the year. “Chevrolet should worry,” Lonnie Miller, an analyst for R.L. Polk & Co., told Automotive News."

"Ford OKs crossover based on Fairlane concept; vehicle to hit market in '08"

"DETROIT -- As Ford Motor Co. prepares to ditch its conventional minivans, a company executive has confirmed that a Ford-brand version of its Fairlane concept will reach the market in 2008.

Lincoln also will get a Fairlane-based vehicle, suppliers say.

The Ford-brand vehicle is an approved product, said a Ford executive who didn't want to be identified. Company executives expect the three-row crossover to replace a traditional minivan in the automaker's lineup.

The company confirmed in late June that the Mercury Monterey minivan will be dropped this fall. Production of the Ford Freestar minivan could end before the end of the 2007 model year."

Chrysler will offer wireless Internet access in 2009 models

"Have you ever thought rush hour on the 405 Freeway might be more bearable if you could check your e-mail, shop for a book on Amazon, place some bids on EBay and maybe even, if nobody is looking, download a little porn?

Then perhaps you should be driving a Chrysler.

The nation's third-largest automaker is set to announce Thursday that it's making wireless Internet an option on all its 2009 models. The mobile hotspot, called UConnect Web, would be the first such technology from any automaker.

Struggling Chrysler is hoping that providing motorists access to the information superhighway will set it apart from competitors and help reverse a dismal year; through May, sales are down 19.3% compared with 2007, the worst drop-off in the industry."

Spied: 2010 Cadillac CTS Wagon sheds most disguise

Quote:
GM decided it was about time to remove some camouflage from the 2010 Cadillac CTS Wagon, as shown in a new round of revealing spy photos. (Of course, if you’re an avid Leftlane reader, you already know what the 2010 Cadillac CTS looks like, thanks to our exclusive illustration.) We’re expecting GM will official unveil the vehicle in the coming months.

As shown by the latest photos and our illustration, the Wagon has a greenhouse almost reminiscent of the forthcoming CTS Coupe. The C-Pillar is extremely thick, and the beltline rises dramatically toward the rear. Unlike the coupe’s centered exhaust, the wagon has two separate — but equally well integrated — exhaust outlets. The taillights reach all the way to the roof, tapering down to thin shards as they rise.

Peering inside, you’ll find an automatic transmission with a +/- gate on the shifter that will let you choose the right gear. On the outside we can see the wagon will be riding on 18-inch wheels. Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 tires will surround those wheels in P235/50R18 size.

Cadillac has managed to pack aggressive styling into a station wagon while delivering 58 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded and 25 with the seats upright.

The CTS Wagon — which is being developed under the codename GMX 206 — is slated for production in about a year at GM’s Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant, with an on-sale date shortly after. Production is pegged at 10,000 to 12,000 units per year, with 50 percent of those intended for European sales. It’s quite possible that GM is targeting this October’s Paris Motor Show for an official unveiling of the car. U.S. pricing will range from $37,500 to $42,500.

Given the overwhelmingly positive reaction from the press and general public to the CTS Sedan and forthcoming CTS Coupe, we suspect the CTS Wagon will be met with equal enthusiasm. While some naysayers think a wagon will dilute the CTS brand, GM has done everything it can to make sure this model is just as fashionable as its siblings.

Codenamed GMX 206, GM will start building this luxury wagon in the Spring of 2009. It will be built along side the CTS sedan and coupe at the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant. Expect GM to build around 10,000-12,000 units a year.

2009 Chevrolet Traverse

Quote:
GM's marketing staff insists the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse is a "no-compromise" vehicle - but we beg to differ. That, however, is a compliment - with the seating capacity of a minivan, towing capacity of a mid-size SUV and the ride prowess of a large car, the Traverse may well be the ideal compromise for customers accustomed to large SUVs.

That may bode well for Chevy dealers. Not only does the Traverse loosely fit into the holes left by the departed Uplander minivan and Trailblazer SUV (finished after a brief '09 run), the capabilities - and better fuel economy - of the new crossover may help it attract customers who normally would shop for Tahoes and Suburbans.
