Many other forums I frequent and have been on for years have ways to help protect it's users. As tacomaworld.com grows I think we should start to think about implementing similar rules to those forums, in particular the Buy/Sell Forums.

Typically, forums do not let you post (some even browse) for sale forums until the user has completed a trial probation (2-3 months) and has posted a minimum number of posts (30 posts).

This forces sellers to know their audience, rules of the forums and helps stop spammers from signing up and spamming away.

Just a thought, hopefully something can be used.

    Thanks,
    Adam

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
i dunno about the 2-3 months....but i do think there should be a post count limit before someone could post anything in the B/S/T section

i agree with a time frame like 2-3 months. that's the big deterrent to keep away the one or 2 post sellers. otherwise somebody could just post some crap in random threads to meet their post requirement, where's the deterrent in that? i personally wouldn't deal with anybody that has only a few posts anyways. i need something to research them with by looking at their post history to see what type of person im going to be dealing with.....

exactly, I have been on car forums, photo-forums, etc and 99% of the scammers are people who have signed up recently.

Just trying to look out for people, especially because I see a lot of shipping of items on here.

not saying your a spammer, scammer, etc, it just looks very suspicious.

It may be my paranoia but coming from honda's back in the day, people that signed up with goods, typically had hot items.

I mean it wouldnt have to be 3 months, thats just what i have seen other places.

I do agree with you though, it could become a pain for people just wanting to make a buck, but then again their is craigslist and ebay for a fast sale.

On other forums I've been on, on the B/S/T section there's a sticky thread for Negative and another for Positive Feedback from deals you've done through the forum. It would have to be heavily moderated (IMO), but it would show who to trust and who's gonna try to pull something on you.

I think that instead of a thread it should actually be like a rep system :spy:

The seller is awarded with "rep" and comments and they can be read by other people

We have the rep, but a lot of times rep is pretty lame. You get rep for pretty much anything. I could toss you rep right now =P. Also, we cannot view a full history of it.

Just looking out for people, anyone can be anybody online and i know lots of people who have been screwed over on forums.

I have a feeling it will most likely just stay with the current rep

The old saying goes. "buyers beware"
If the guy only has a few posts don't buy from them, internet buying is risky anyways. I never buy anything used from anyone off of the internet, for the most part.
If I'm buying something used, I'm going to have to actually look at whatever I'm buying.
    Just my two cents.

ok so what if someone just has some cool tacoma stuff to sell? And then he decides "maybe i should go on a toyota site to sell it." But then he gets here and there is a 3 month wait. Well alot of people maybe missing out on the stuff he is selling because he could sell it elseware.

All im saying is, Buyers need to be smart about who they deal with. Get contact info, and as much info as you can about someone before you buy. Lets just be smart about buying and selling. We dont need to block everyone from it.
