I think the mods should slack off on locking every controversial thread. If we are civil I see no reason to shut it down. I understand that the mods may feel everything that can be said may have been said but there are tons of threads that would fall in to that category. Tires, Lift, lights, off roading, performance. We have a lot of mods now adays and I appreciate the work yall do but come on guys. I remember ya'll when ya'll were new and some of you are guilty of the things you are locking threads for now. With the exception of 2 recent threads that were very civil and yet still locked.

We lock threads based off of the Code of Conduct. While it is up to our discretion we have experience that guides our judgment. Contreversial threads generally start to spiral out of control and good people say things that they would otherwise not say to other members. The reported post option isn't there just to click, we see those and act upon those in a necessary fashion.

If its political, spreads hatred then its against the code of conduct. Dont push your luck.

OP: Agreed. Lately I've seen some non-political/civil/b.s. threads get locked fairly quickly, but only after a certain mod has the last word. Weakness...but only a problem with one mod, imho.

In any/every case, I just find other threads to read on TW. We're not going to change anything...

    Good post though!

I'm the one that suggest that political threads not be allowed. I know if you gents go through those threads you will see that most was solved before you acted. Atleast the 1 was, the other was put down too early. lol. The first was shut down many pages and hours after the poor comment was made, and the guilty party was scoulded by members here both publiclly and through pms. I've been here a while and ya'll don't have that much more experience, hell the site just started booming. It was slow in the beginning. But what I am getting at is that you see how they played out after ya'll were notified (I know you can't be on 24hrs) and look at the thread and see that when the notice was sent the reply was inapropriate but then the regular members handled it, it should have been kept open. Just becasue we aren't mods doesn't mean we won't take care of our site.

    KC,

"Ire"...not quite. No, but I've expressed my opinion of his/her (unsure [seriously, not trash-talking]) tactics in other threads, and have received responses that led me to believe that he/she would be unresponsive to any such PM(s).

    Not a biggie.

    Again, good thread...very civil.

This is spot on but is also true for mods. Meaning poor judgement calls. Hell we have newer mods that have caused trouble before, they know who they are because i'm not shy to send a pm. I like it here and like in the real world the authorities are supposed to be stand up members. Also the mods should not leave a spiteful comment upon locking threads. Its an unfair shot at a last word.

Oh and I don't have any problems with mods I think ya'll do great, I just felt we could have a chat here and let others air out there thoughts as well. When I feel something is odd i'll pm the mod and speak with them, i've had one of ya'll open a locked thread for us to continue conversing.

Thanks for replying to this thread it is a window into the minds.

you can PM any one of the other mods if you feel your concern isn't addressed. We are pretty receptive to each other as mods

Nobody Is perfect including the mods. Experience isn't solely based upon how long or how many posts one has on this forum. Some of us are a little more reserved when locking a thread. In my opinion if you feel something serious needs to be addressed pm all of us and we will discuss the issue at hand. If you feel some of us are "overstepping" their bounds let us know. We are here to make it a better forum and sometimes we can use a little constructive critisism

This is what makes this site great! I feel that this thread has served exactly what I wanted however I wish a few of the other mods would chime in. I know how you 2 think, its the reason I contact ya'll with any issues I have ever had or thought needed addressing. Keep it up gents. Please don't think this was an attack on the mods it was soley to bring up awareness.

Threads that have anything to do with politics or religion usually take a nose dive to the shitter. Thats why they nip in the butt so early...its all based off experience. I see it happen all the time lol

I think I know at least one of the threads being brought up in this thread. I didn't lock it- but if I'm thinking of the right one- There was a report made after the comment was made and the mods were not on right at that minute- so the response was time late.
Could the thread have gone on- Yeah...Probably...but we are only human too.

As I see it- Everyone knows the hot button issues- There are some really clear topics that are just non-starters. There are some that are hot button but still go one (like the couple today). If folks can continue to have decent conversations about stuff- threads will probably float a little longer.

Yeah you got that right Brunes. But when the mod or mods got the alert, at whatever time it was then that they should have read through and made a call. At that time, now if it was caught at the moment the alert was sent and locked I would have agreed because the comment was very uncalled for. However it went on until the next morning, pages and hours had past with no ill spoken words. Thats all I was wanting to point out. I don't normally disagree with the locking of a thread because I can see where it is going.

I can certainly understand this, I am against having the political threads because they can never be civilized. We have tried but in the end we just can't. Not a problem we just decided to not have them.

Since I started said closed thread, I didn't catch the members comment yntill late this morning. My first reaction was an oh shit, here we go...I sent the closing mod an apology for the behavior and way it went downhill. I hate politics, and never intended it to go that way. I think the mods were right on this one.
    Cheers gents.

The thread I was reffering to is about the 15yr old Mexican child that was killed by US Border Patrol.
