I've been SOCK'D!!!

Working with SOCKMONKEY, i wanted to do something to commemorate my very 1st Toyota 4x4 that i bought new in February 1982. Working off some pics of a 1982, I asked Sock to duplicate the tailgate 4 Wheel Drive decal.

I can't say enough good things about sock's work....communications were great, he made sure to send me artwork before i bought, and i am extremely happy with the finished product.

Here's how it looks on my 2009 tailgate, after i de-badged and applied the SOCK!

thanks for the kind words.....i sized the new one slightly undersized so it didn't ruin the 'debadge' look of the tailgate.....Sock was able to get it dead on for original 'look'.....

nicely understated i think......

Nice job, but what about the 'SR5' and 'TOYOTA'?? I think those would look sharp on there too.

How you like your cap? I'd love to see more pics of the truck and cap......

Cap - ARE CX model Cab High

I have had A.R.E model caps on my toyota's since 1994. At first i was slightly disappointed with the fit of the window......in the CX model, they try to 'recess' the window, but the fiberglass cutout doesn't quite match the contour of the window. It appears to me that ARE uses the same window in the CX model as they do the next model down.....on the lower end model the window is 'flush' with the outside, where on the CX, it fits in a recess. (all my previous ARE caps were of the 'lower end' model.)

To try to make the window look 'integrated' they put these little plastic 'wings' on the end of the window to make it fit the fiberglass cutout.

The first thing i did was remove these wings, since they looked 'cheap'...

After several months now, i am 'used' to the new look...

If i had to do it over, i would either step down a level in the ARE line, or go with the LEER 100R.....

Here are some pics of the truck/cap combo:
