Does the case really get stretched that much when the carrier goes in, or was it just a bad cover? BTW, what size socket is needed for the pinion nut?

That's the cover not being deep enough it looks like. The holes not lining up? I'd say bad cover or wrong cover.

Cover was not deep enough. Was just a bad one from the get go. Socket is 1 5/16"...you will need to make it thinwall if you replace yoke with driveflange, in order to install the new pinion nuts.

It actually had that at first until I drilled all the holes to 7/16" from 3/8" for the 5/16" fasteners. But once the carrier and gears were in the cover is sitting on the ring gear preventing it from going on all the way.

I think the "shell" portion fell too deep into the "flange" portion if you follow. Also the flange is made from 3/8" plate and machined flat again after welding to account for warpage. It looks like my original had warped badly too, as there were points it was only 3/16" thick.

Either way the new one fits and fits great!

Jon are you gonna shave yours? no homo

Yeah, I'd like to. Does anyone sell shaved D60 ring gear like they do with 14 bolts?

No need to. The OD on the ring gear doesnt need to be turned down any for the ballistic shave kit. And the rear shave [D60] is basically just grinding off a bug hunk of cast on the housing so no need there either.

Finishing buttoning up things on the interior from the duals. Patching the tranny tunnel a bit and I am going to install a rubber boot there to seal the interior up, and I will have the faux leather boot still at the center console.

And started on some link stuff :D

Made the straight lower link axle brackets into 15° ones. Added some weld washers for extra strength too.
