I agree. You won't ever see a solid axle trophy truck and you hardly see IFS competition rock crawlers BUT if you are building a true dual purpose rig, solid axle might be the way to go. Just ask the 6 KOH winners that have solid axled front engine cars ;)

Yeah he does and he's won it twice. That's all you need to make it reliable, about $50,000 or a sponsor ;)

Fuck yeah it is, I get a chub every time I see it.

It's at my buddy's work once in a while.

That uniball is like the size of my fist, and them CVs the size of my thighs.

But yeah for me, a dana 60 was within my means. Suppose it just depends on what you want to do.

I should take more pictures... the steering set up blew my mind, I don't even... and everything else, the level of skill blows my mind.

Lol, i still stand by the bolded statements, the first one for sure, and the second one was a serious consideration. I sas'd the truck because the ifs needed a full rebuild and i was able to do it dirt cheap. Now i just have a shity setup with 3" of uptravel

The webwheelers made me lol on this as well!

I'd say the crawler is a better investment than an axle swap on a 5 speed truck hands down. If you are auto then it's not as noticeable but trying to wheel anything technical sucks ass with a single case 5-speed.

I am diggin' those bright green wheels :D

Have a built thread of your rig? Sorry, if it's buried on this website somewhere I never saw it. Would like to see the specs and how you built it. Also, do you really have a 5spd on that double-cab? Never seen a 5spd on a 1st gen double cab before

Your rig seems a bit tall. Do you like how it handles with whatever frame height you have?

    Hahahaha

You seemed so firm against the SAS but ended up with one. It is our fault! lol

It sucks a little less with a single case with super deep gears like a lefty or atlas.

I have mixed feelings on this issue. On one hand, yes, deeper gearing is really the best first mod anybody can do; or the best mod if that's the only mod the person will ever do.

On the other hand, even the deepest gears in the world cannot overcome the limitations of not having enough axle articulation and more ground clearance [a SAS makes room for bigger tires, which increases ground clearance].

Obviously, the ideal is to have both tons of axle flex and deep gears.
Personally, if I could only afford one, I would rather have a well built SAS with links and coilovers first. I think a well built suspension with a solid axle is always better than than IFS. Now, a piece of shit SAS without low gearing...well, yea nobody wants that!

Not this places fault, trust me! I came from the jeep world and hands down my IFS dual cased tacoma on 33s could go more places than my solid axled jeep. I wanted bigger tires and a front locker, so i axle swapped it. It is now way overbuilt for the trails around me which sucks a bit, another reason why i didnt want to axle swap it.

Saying that it was fun wheeling some hard stuff and not having to worry about the group accomidateing me.

So yea i would still take a dual cased tacoma over a non dual cased one with an sas.
