no i suprisingly enough dont have a build thread. i probably should make one as i have attempted quite a few things many taco owners wont touch on their own. i can help you with the conversion and every part and step it will take to get it done. feel free to throw me a pm and i can explain further over the phone. you could prolly to the whole conversion for $1500

I may take you up on this offer. There's a few folks on TW who have done the same thing, and the numbers I'm seeing are between $1500 - $3000. Most seem to collect the parts over time, and then have someone do the installation. I would be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay in over my head to even attempt it, but looking to start collecting the parts.

Wanted to throw a couple of pics up of my virgin Taco. Really want to upgrade the stock head unit. Anybody have pros/cons of single DIN vs double DIN units? How do they fit? One better that the other? I have to apologize but I have been out of the audio loop since the late 80's when it was all about bump. I had (4) 15"s in a CRX...LOL.:headbang:

Good looking rig! I don't know a whole lot about headunits or audio equipment for that matter, but IMO double din looks much cleaner than a single din.

And I'd love to have a DD with the back up camera wired in to have a nice big display. If I was to replace mine I'd be looking into doing this.

I just went SD to SD in my Taco when I upgraded, but in my wife's Pilot went from a DD to SD. One is not really better than the other, and Crutchfield will send you the pocket that goes below a SD when making the switch. I don't like to invest too much asides from audio performance in a radio anymore, because everything is on an iPhone nowadays.

Whatever you do, make sure you go to Crutchfield first. Great site, great prices, and great reviews.

I did a single DIN Pioneer I got from Crutchfield. My first stereo install was a breeze with their great installation instructions. In the past I had stereo places do the install. Free shipping, Free wiring harness, Free Tech Support, Free in-dash reciever kit. They also have good prices! They also fitted me with the correct steering wheel audio controller for my Tacoma. It also was easy to install. I think my Receiver was $130 & the steering audio controller was $69

Hey thanks everyone for all of the info. Never even thought of using DD for the backup camera. That would be sweet! I think I'll go with DD since it would offer alot more goodies. Basically looking for ipod controls, bluetooth and better sound. My wife's Pilot has XM so I'm not too interested in having it in the Taco. I'm not looking for the big woofers either as I'm currently sporting 2 child seats with one being an infant. Once I have some extra $$$ and wife's approval (I know I need to grow some...) I will get something and post pics. I've been browsing around Crutchfield for a couple weeks now. Looks like that's the way to go. I used to use Hi-Fi Buys when I was younger but I think they are all bankrupt now.
