Might be driving to southern Ohio this weekend... Samurai with a cage, bumpers (no winch though), 33 MT's inc spare, toyota axles, lockers, and a multiport injection geo tracker motor for $2500.

O I know, Im just saying watch yourself at gas stations and such, dont want to take a brick to the backside and lose 2 vehicles. Used to work with a couple of brothers that were from southern OH and they talked about how rough it was yet very little gets reported so the crime rate appears really low. but anyway good luck!! and get ready for a boring ass drive through Kentucky!!!

I used to make the drive from central Alabama to northern Ohio about once a month. The run through Kentucky was easy once you pass the KY plant. Of course, by then I was usually so tired that I spent the rest of the way giggling about ky jelly.

Yeah, it's definitely a risk. I'm gambling a bit, but aside from having rolled it and "trail ridden the shit out of it" (his words), it looks like he kept the paint up. I'm also figuring as long as the axles and drivetrain are pretty enough, I could replace the whole body if i had to and still have a good deal.

Heh, he also said there's not a straight panel on it but it runs great. At least he's honest. I figure I can just be liberal with the bondo and rattle cans and have a good beater, it doesn't have to win any shows.

Considering everything in the picture looks green, you might be surprised when you get there. How long of a drive is it?

take a good magnet with you, easy way to look for rust esp through paint. if the magnet dont stick it aint metal. check everywhere that mud splashes while driving, inner fenders lower quarter panels all that good stuff, even though that is only body stuff it can help you lead towards bigger issues and where to look really close at the frame and crossbars.

Its a little over 5 hours, so I have to be pretty invested. I told him I'd think it over and call him back, I may specifically ask him about rust - that's the best I'll do before I get there.

That's a really good idea. I almost only care about rust on frame and axles... and I have a 5lb ddropped screw magnet picker upper in my toolbox that would do perfectly.

I'll be honest. 10 hours of driving just to check out something "wheeled the shit out of" will need a lot of consideration if you are going to be pulling a trailer the whole time.

Until you flex and your tub falls off or you hit the breaks and the body keeps going.... axle rust is usually ignorable, zuk's don't usually have frame rust issues.

if you are wanting something decent to wheel that is fair priced....i'd say start looking at yj's. Cheap, easy to work on, and you could find one streetable.

It's really nice not being tied to a trailer anymore.

YJs were definitely more than I wanted them to be. I am getting back into side-by-side territory for the majority of them... I'd rather go to a trailer, if I take this thing to windrock I'm going to break shit.

Also, if axles and engine are good, I could pick up a non-running samurai and get them bolted up to it with the help of a welder buddy in town and still make out for less than my other options.

I'm into my cherokee for about 6k all together and I'm fairly well equipped and super comfy to drive...

Just trying to give you all my experience from the cj so that you don't walk out of your apartment and go, eff me why did I buy that. The tires are flat, doesn't start well from not getting driven, and its rusting. Not to mention people will bitch about an old beater rig being on a trailer.

Yeah, fair enough. To be honest, though, if I get to that point with this, I could part it out or sell it whole and get the asking price back or close to it.

Also planning to do a uhaul vehicle parking spot for like 30 or 40 a month until we get a house, then this thing gets garaged so the neighbors don't hate us.
