Which would you say is safer? I've always viewed it as a weight saving thing

    Look at build!

Easy. Synthetic. Safer, lighter, stronger. You cant go wrong. Only downside is price between the two but synthetic no doubt for me if I ever put a winch back on my truck. Id recommend some sort of winch cover as well if you plan on having it in an open bumper where the sun can get to it, that's the worst destruction for synthetic line.

Been a while since I've posted here. Saw two nicely modded tacos today on university boulevard today in B'ham, one of them flashed their light bar at me. There's a very good chance I will join along on the 4th as long as nobody has any objections.

I've never been out to Choccolocco before, so that would probably be the best bet so I don't get lost, haha. I'm from Chattanooga and do a good bit of wheeling up there and around Tennessee. After 3 years of going to school in B'ham though, I still haven't experienced any decent trails in the surrounding areas. I'll mark it down on the calendar and give you a for sure confirmation the week of.

I'm in Birmingham at the moment for school, so distance is not an issue at all. I'm on the fj forums, have a group of guys I've wheeled with around here before, I'll post up and rally the troops.

I can't tell from looking at Choccolocco's page if there are many trails that a 2 wheel drive with high clearance could make. It looks from the pics like there would be plenty of areas to explore, but what do you think? Also i see some pics of water, can you fish there?

I just pulled my offroad tires down off my rack and cleaned up the scratches in them. I won't promise yet, but would like to try to join on the 4th.

ill add another maybe if its confirmed that a locked 2wd with a little extra ground clearance will be able to do anything to justify a 2 hr drive there.

There's not really anything worth coming for.. Sorry Prerunner guys! You could come ride up and down the main road, but as soon as you leave it then you'll need 4x4.. You're more than welcome to come ride with any of us!

Whats the difficulty level of the trails we're planning on running? Some of the guys on the FJ forum are asking, then I got a buddy here at school with a brand new nighthawk cherokee, low range, rear locker, and sliders, wondering if Choccolocco might be a bit out of his league or not.

He'll be fine.. Choccolocco is rated like this: green: easy, blue: moderate/hard, red:hard/insane.
We'll be on green about 60% and blue 40%.

But the trails change almost weekly due to the weather and it's rained a lot this summer so some will be worse. I've ran blues easier than a green and made it down a red or two.

That was with a stock '81 Pickup no lockers, no lift, 235/75/15 AT tires, no sliders, etc. But I drive the hell out of it. Upgraded to 32" MT and could only go up a few of the slicker areas easier.

Now I'm lifted with the same tires. I just look for the rock gardens to be easier now. Got sliders to put on before then.

There are very few trails that I do easier than my brother in his '94 Pickup (IFS). Y'all will be fine! Esp with a locker, but the trail hawk guy may struggle with clearance.

Just finished waxing my girl last night. Tonight I'm going to clean the windows real good and throw some rainx on them. Offroad tires are on. Just need to gather up my travelling gear.

I should be there on the 4th unless something unexpected happens. Going to take 2 hours to get there.
