Alright.. Anyone else!? What about you Josh(conrad)? It's kinda out your way.. Still closer for us but you have a winch.. I'll be Jeepin it real along with Paul but it would be great to see a couple Taco's out there!

BTW.. Paul.. Sometime soon I want to put my suspension on my Jeep to see if it helps the ride any.. I also might try to retro fit an old shock for the front steering dampener..

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
Thats fine. Getting that front pinion nut off is still a priority. I think I need to go ahead and buy a new pinion nut. If its that hard to get off, it probably wouldn't be safe to put it back on anyways. I'll probably run into town today and get a new zerk and pinion nut.

BTW, I wouldn't put a shock in as a stabilizer because:

    1) Different mounting methods
    2) Shocks are going to be more shot than the stabilizer
    3) Different length
    4) shocks will have a different damping rate than a stabilizer would

Well yeah, I am sure they will have them then. My point was that going for the actual grand opening is not something I want to try. Not to mention that a grand opening weekend, that place will probably be PACKED. Lots of trucks on a trial = lots more chance of some idiot doing something he shouldn't and hitting another truck. It has happened plenty.

What is the problem you are having with the pinion nut? The nut is a low-tolerance clearance nut, so it will be tight going on and off the entire way for the most part. May I ask what you are pulling off the pinion nut for? I ask because there is a crush sleeve that is pretty much a one-time-use, though there are some limits. Also you have to be careful about retightening. Too loose and the gears can wobble at speed, but too tight and you thrash on the bearing races and bearings.

It won't come off haha. I don't plan on reusing it once I remove it. I'm removing it because I have a bad pinion seal. I know the threads are supposed to deform the nut for safety, got a new one waiting to go on. The D30 in the XJ's use shims, not crush sleeves so I don't think I'll run into problems. As far as I can tell the new nut is the same as the old one so I'm going to torque it to factory specs and then compare the thread count. Is there anything else I might be looking over?

What year is your XJ? I had a '99. Some models come with a crush sleeve for the front pinion, it depended on the manufacture. I will look up specs for you once I know the year.

Ahhh. Same as mine. I loved my '99! OK, that year used a selective shim. You shouldn't have anything to worry about on that one. It shows in my manuals that your torque on the nut should be between 220 and 350 lbft. Not sure why it is not a specific torque. I would suggest around 260?

Haha nope. To actually run an impact wrench well, you are looking at a pretty damn expensive compressor. Im gonna ask the guy who bought my truck if I can stop by and use his shop for about 20 minutes. Im sure he wouldn't mind
