Well its a land Cruiser with a diesel so I've got that going for me.
Trans American Trail- Coast to Coast dirt trail network across 'Merica. Not super technical especially on the East side of the Rockies but it's an interesting long trip. Very popular for motorcyclists but it seems that 4 wheelers have been doing it as well in the last few years. Just some narrow sections that would need a divert for a few miles in some places.

    I know right? Lol

I've been planning awhile and am gonna try and give myself plenty of cushioning!

Here's my plan: Moab is 1679 miles from my house so..

    1679 miles/16 mph= 105 gallons.

105 gallons x $3.25 avg (I searched gas prices in major cities from here to Moab and got this)= $341.25 for gas out there. We'll say $350

    So $350 x 2 (there and back) = $700 + $100 (for gas while wheeling. That's 3 tanks for me)

So I'm at $800 for gas.

    Let's say $10 a meal x 3 a day= $30 per day x 9 day trip= $270

So I'm at $1070 for gas and food. I plan to take $1500 at least.

Also, I get way better than 16 mpg and I plan on buying groceries and keeping in the cooler. So the above estimates are rough and scaled up so that I would have plenty. Even if I didn't buy groceries, it'd be hard to hit $10 for breakfast unless we ate Cracker Barrel every morning!

How the fuck you getting 16 mpg? I highly doubt that. Your speedo corrected for tire size? If not your odo will also be off.. When I was on 35's with 4.11 gears I could drive to Uwharrie ~50 miles, wheel all day, drive back and I'd be on 1/4 tank.

Lol so that's understating? I'd be very impressed and slightly jealous if it's accurate. I want to fix my odometer so I can measure mine out of curiosity now. My odometer is about 2-3 mph off with 5.29's and 37's

Are you saying I should get worse or better?

I get a hell of a lot better than 16. Lol I was getting 19-20 before I put the Weber and 32s on. It should be close to the same because my RPMs aren't screaming all the time like they used to.

    I drove 320 something miles and wheeled 6 hours on $60 at $3.10 a gallon. So $60/$3.10= ~ 19 gallons. So 320 miles/19 gallons = 16.8 mpg

That's 16.8 mpg including the 6 hours of 4lo wheeling. I don't know how to calculate it without the wheeling, but the road mileage would have to be pretty good. And actually I got up the next morning and drove 15 min to church then 10 min to town before I put gas in it. So I could tach on another 20 miles, but I won't.

I'm saying I expected worse. If that's what you're actually getting then more power to ya haha. I swear if I dog it I can watch my guage go down..

Are you taking into consideration that your speedo if off due to tire size? That results in an inaccurate odo reading.

Not going by odometer for that reason. Drew out the exact route I took on maps and it was like 128 miles there. So that's real close to 340 instead of 320.

    Gonna add the other two in. 320 + the 16 I didn't count + the 20 miles on Sunday= 356/19= 18.7 :yay:

And trust me that includes plenty of donuts in the gravel and bouncing it off the rev limiter on a hill or two!

It's slightly lower in St. Louis..

Even at $4 a gallon the whole time (which it won't be) I'm still sitting at $1200 and that'd give me $300 for a repair. I'd rather have $500+ for repairs, but I can easily save the other $200....... Or bring my parents credit card :)

Yeah I in no way think it will be $4 everytime I fill up! But I am also making my trip extend all the way down into So Cal and then back so my guess is I will see everything from low $3 to over $4. Plus if you know you will be driving lots of big interstates bring actual cash for better prices...
