We'll I think my girl friend and I will be relocating to Memphis for work. Any advice on good little towns to live in near or in Memphis? And yes I just had a thread about columbia and she turned down the job because she didn't like the zoo or town of columbia. It didn't have what we are looking for. Also there is more work for me in Memphis as we'll.

We know about the crime, it is what it is. There is crime every where in every state. Just gotta find the nice parts of town to live in.

True. I have friends who lived there all their life...it has really gotten bad from what they tell me. They don't go into Memphis without carrying. I guess I'd plan to commute into work and find a nice little bedroom community to live in a ways out. I have no first hand experience. Good luck to you both.

Germantown is pretty nice from what I've seen. There's some really nice spots and some rougher areas.

Collierville, Millington, Cordova, Arlington, anywhere on the outskirts of Memphis is best, depends on where you work, if you have kids, what you are into, like the rural areas or what. I used to live there. Anywhere in actual Memphis unless it is a gated community is not where I would want to live. It's a nasty city. Wouldn't want to have to live there myself, but that is just my opinion. The city I live in now is not that much better.

Yeah I think Germantown is where we wanna live from what we keep reading. She will be working at the zoo so we wanna stay within 30min of that. I don't care to much on my commute. I just need a local trucking job.

We currently live in sanford fl, home of Zimmerman and Trayvon...... Sanford has a downtown historic district and that is where we live. Small homes that are from the early 1900's, walking distance to local bars and great food spots. thats what we like. Sanford is full of crime, but is also a really nice place to live.

Pfffft I live in the center of Memphis. My wife has lived inside the loop her whole life. Its not that bad, the crime generally stays in the ghetto. I mean I would advise you to have a security system wherever you move to around here. Germantown is very expensive. Bartlett and Cordova aren't as bad. I live right by the University and its fine here.

Bartlett is another area to look in to - or if you're young and renting check out the mud island area.

Would you guys have any recommendations on a realtor that we could go through to find a nice rental? The closer we are to the zoo the better. We find all these nice homes but then they have the bars on the windows and that kinda makes us a little worried it might be in a bad area.

A good rule of thumb is look at the local businesses In the area like Walgreens or gas stations. If they have bars on the windows it's a bad part of town for sure

Two of our adult children live in Memphis. It is an old town, but great for varieties of restaurants and they love the social scene. One of the kids has lived there three years, east Memphis and never had a problem. From what I understand, living in mid-town is pretty safe and centrally located. Though actually, Memphis in small enough that it's not far to get to anything. I live in Atlanta now and if I could get my wife to move, I'd live in Memphis. Also, home prices are great. If you're looking for a realtor, hit me up.

    PM sent

Next we she goes up there for a final interview so we will probably have a month to get up there. Also if anybody knows of any local trucking jobs that would be great.

Arlington is nice, don't live there myself but do have friends there and they like it and it seems a nicer place to look into if you're looking in the Memphis/Shelby Co. area.
