I love mine!!! Small and sleek which opens up more mounting options over the Scanguage2 in my opinion. And it seems to be pretty accurate also.

I haven't looked into them to much, but I know that if I get one, I want instant mpg and transmission temp. I remember seeing where the trans temp was an issue.

cant get trans temp on any of them, our trucks trans temp probe sends back merely a good/bad signal not an actual reading, which is kinda sucky if you ask me.

I know! The wife and I have a 3 week old though, so I'm a little ways off from spending a Saturday out of town.

I did spend some time wrenching on the truck though. Finished part of a project that I've been working on for a few weekends.

Understandable my friend. I wouldn't he have dared to take off when mine was that young either! Congrats on the baby if I haven't already said it! What did you do to the taco?

Thanks man :) We're pretty stoked about her.

Been buttoning up my HF radio install. It's an amateur radio that covers 160-6m. I upgraded my license almost a year ago, and just now got around to putting an HF rig in the truck.

It's the lower radio in the photo. The one over the mirror is a 2m / 70cm rig that I've had for the past few years.

The actual radio and antenna tuner are under the passenger seat. I've still got a good bit of RF grounding and shielding to do, as well as some wiring in the engine bay. I got a Blue Seas 12v fuse panel to terminate both ham radios, CB, and a couple of additional 12v cig lighter outlets I want to put in for the back seat. Right now the radio is just wired straight to the batt, as I haven't had time to wire the panel yet. I'm debating putting in a second battery while I'm at it.

The radio install took me a LOT longer than I thought though. I basically burned like 30 hours on it. It's all done "belt and suspenders" though. Everything's in split loom, antenna has a custom mount to the frame in the bed with 3 steel plates for reinforcement, 8x 10ga power wire. (The factory harness that came with the radio was that beefy... I was kinda surprised.) It is a 42A load though, so who knows. I wanted it to be too much wire rather than too little though.

It works like a champ though. So far I've made contacts in Belgium, Australia, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Canada, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Lithuania, Aruba, and Argentina.

That's impressive! I had no idea those radios reached out so far. Sounds like a lot of fun!

All depends on the particular band, and the conditions. With HF (3mHz - 30mHz) you get skywave propagation, where the ionosphere reflects and refracts the signal to bounce it around the earth for longer distance communication. Conditions have to be right for that to work. The latest sunspot cycle has been good, so it's working out well for now.

It's pretty cool. I will say, the first contact I made overseas was pretty wild. I was like, wow, no way that actually works. lol
