another option u could get a cheaper car to be ur dd like a little civic or something that gets like 35-40 mpg and keep the truck as well.. more of a weekend warrior if something happens to it youll have time to fix it? idk man haha i do know i've driven cars before and immediately missed my truck.

Yeah, that's what I do now. I have a 2000 civic that I use as a DD so the truck just sits in the garage. Just hate paying 450+ for something that just sits. I just found out my dad will be out of the country for a few years so I'm going to use his Subaru Forester while he's gone.

I know what you mean, though. I've been driving the civic almost all the time but every time I take the truck for a spin I'm like "Man, I miss driving this thing!"

Thanks! I genuinely appreciate that it made an impression. Here's the latest, three days of kayak touring on Lake Powell last weekend through some horrific weather:

    http://www.firsttracksonline.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=72207#p72207

While the truck's utilization on that trip was minimal, there's no way in hell I would've been able to reach that launch point at Stanton Creek (or more importantly get out of there in the mud on Sunday) in a car.

In my opinion it all boils down to what do you enjoy more the truck to go out meet new people enjoy the out door or the extra money that you get with out the truck.

I vote the truck and explore the outdoors!!!!

Wow! What an amazing trip! That's exactly the type of stuff I want to do. I'm really starting to get sold on getting some kayaks for me and the fiance. I didn't realize there were so many rivers and lakes out here.

The best flat water paddle around here is the final 100 miles of the Green River down to its confluence with the Colorado in Canyonlands NP. It can be done in one shot or split in half at Mineral Bottom. Outside Magazine rated it as one of the nation's top flat water trips. Here's an article I penned on the trip in 2011:

That's awesome man. We're planning on attempting a trip in august after reading your write up. Can't wait to check it out. Thanks for the info!

Whoa, August? I wouldn't even think of doing that trip from June until late September! Way too damned hot. This late summer and fall will have low current and flow after the third disappointing winter in a row. And realize that you need to jump through some bureaucratic hoops to secure a Park Service permit for the section below Mineral Bottom well in advance of your trip.

Be sure to pick up a guide book so that you don't miss some important points of interest. The Belknap guide is ok. Michael Kelsey's is best but it's out of print and hard to find, and therefore expensive, so perhaps the best solution would be to copy relevant pages at the library. He gets deep into the area's history on each section of the river.

That's a pretty big section. ;) Sounds you're not going to be too far from where we are anyway. It's a great place. I'll keep my eyes out for you. Be sure to wave if you spot me.

Right on, thanks for the info. We're trying to figure out where we want to go for Memorial weekend. Any suggestions on a state or national park where we can do some hiking and possibly kayaking where dogs are allowed? Looks like Glen Canyon prohibits dogs in many areas.

Anybody have a recommendation for a CB radio install in the Salt Lake area? I want something clean and professional looking in the space in front of the gear shift in a manual Gen 2 (not to mention that even running the antenna line is above my pay grade).

The only place that comes to mind would be sapp brothers off California avenue. Not sure though they might be able to point you in the right direction.

Oh I can come up with a few. Do you have any mounting preferences?

Well, it's bigger than single DIN, which I figure pretty much rules out this space:

    eme3u4e7_e73d88dbde88d9a2a88ef1f017b78b78f20d754c.jpg

I guess that a Cobra 18 WX ST II could always go there (I want something with weather radio built in) but I like what I see in the 29 more.

Otherwise that pretty much leaves me with this:

    6uha3uza_202374611d88d4ec83e839eb11fffa412b6b3788.jpg

That also leaves the question of the antenna mount: hood, cab roof, rear bumper or Leer shell?

Assume that I know very little about this because you'd be correct. I'm thinking that I want this primarily for safety and communications on desert trips.

You also have the option to split the head unit and remit locate it. Let me look around and see what guys have found to be the better locations.

What what would be you main reason for wanting a full sized CB??

As for the antenna that is purely up to you. The best location for it is center of the truck in the middle. The more antenna you have exposed above roof level the better your preformance will be.

When are you looking at getting this installed?
