    2 questions:

    Is that a bullet hole?

    Are those pee stains?

Hey fellers... I finally got my pictures uploaded from the run on Monday.

It was a great time, and we had a good group. We even got a surprise when Alex showed up unexpectedly as we were halfway up La Bajada. We hit the trail head around 9:45 a, aired down and were on our way by 10 am.

La Bajada was VERY different from the last time I'd seen it. The big storms of last summer have washed the road out badly and turned it into a much harder trail. This was a good thing, and added to the challenge and excitement. There is one section where the road is just a couple good rainstorms away from becoming completely impassable. If it washes out I doubt that it will ever be repaired so if you get a chance, you may want to run it while you still can.

After that we continued on over the Caja Del Rio plateau. I got turned around and made a wrong turn at one point, which burned about 20 minutes by the time I figured out where we were and got us back on track.

Nathan, thinking about taking a dive into the sinkhole...

He made a good choice not to dive, it was a long way down...

    10_zps490bced6_e0180e93b6f4cffd6308c46887a6d4fb2c6b4876.jpg

Nathan trying a STEEP alternate line up the first obstacle on Tank Trap. He ended up getting stuck on two ledges that blocked the P/S front and D/S rear at the same time. Plus there was a huge point of rock under the rear axle/gas tank that kept pounding his rig.

    9_zps1b47f50c_f643f2395b2a9fa57ee1fefbe22259032f8053ae.jpg

I took the standard off camber line, and with some excellent spotting from Max I made it to the top.

    8_zpsaeb1b526_ba956a8125ef600fd54700440852a1a13edb8113.jpg

    7_zpsadac1595_9bb11af0f3773dfa11d3fd871652e27069f3d1f7.jpg

Coming back down was SKEEEEEEEETCHY!!!! Max warned me that coming down the obstacle would be worse than going up and he was right. I tried several lines and kept having to back up and try again. Eventually, I got to the point where the truck was at a 35 degree angle on the inclinometer, with the P/S rear wheel off the ground. It wasn't looking good and I was very close to flopping my rig.

    Colin's Pic from earlier...

    IMG_1354abq_zps4b48e993_2562d1e0342c293f177a98cb029330ccf8c3dc12.jpg

Finally, the anxiety got to me and I decided to turn hard driver and just gun the throttle. Like Max and I talked about before I started on the way up... "When it doubt, throttle out!" I was banking on the centrifugal force pushing the P/S rear back down and allowing me to get past the obstacle and stabilized.

Thankfully it did work. But still:

And finally off the obstacle while the group talked about how close I was to tipping..

Headed out to 599 on FR24 at the end of the day...

    1_zpse7392ae4_50a038a834dc3d5f46858f00d236b36f60f24e6f.jpg

It was an awesome run, and I really enjoyed catching up with Max, Sara and Gian as well as meeting Nathan, Alex, and Colin. Tank Trap is the hairiest obstacle I've ever been on and it gave me some good off camber experience. The weather was gorgeous and most of us were in t-shirts by the end of the day. We all got to see some new things and places while exploring the plateau, which was cool because it created a new experience for the whole group. This is a run that I would do again in a heartbeat, but it would be ideal to have 2 days to play out there and maybe camp somewhere out on the plateau.

Tom and Scott, I wish you guys could have made it out for this one!

Last but not least, I know Colin has a TON of excellent pictures of Nathan and I on Tank Trap, and from throughout the day. I'm really hoping that he'll quit holding out :D and post a few so that you guys can see how sketchy that obstacle was.

Yeah I'll post up a few more pix when I get back on my computer. I should have about 10 more or so. I didn't actually take that many this trip.

Great pics. Looks like a cool trip. La Bajada is interesting to drive and the Caja del Rio Plateau is a fun area.

    Any upcoming trips?

So I'm pretty new to wheeling and still saving up the cash to start putting money into my truck, but I'd love to gain some experience and knowledge of trail etiquette. If anybody would allow a ride along I'd love to head out with you guys sometime.

I usually have an open seat and need use of a spotter/cameraman. Not sure the next time we're gathering a run although I'm hoping the girlscout cookie meet is soon. Hoping to get a bunch of stuff fixed by then.

Etiquette is typically "Do unto others..." ;)

Yeah, one of the guys has a daughter who is in girl scouts and takes orders from the local TWers when cookie season is in. Then we have a meet on delivery day and eat all the cookies on the trail. It is a pretty popular meet for some reason...

Not sure it will happen this year. Haven't heard much from him but hoping he pops on to announce it'll happen again.
