I was reading up on ttora about a sidewall patch for a pin sized hole. There was a big debate about it but apparently its OK to fix the tire with a small hole from a pin, nail, etc. I would like to fix my tire that recently got a nail in the sidewall to have a matching spare in case of emergency but before I go through all this work, I would like to get your guys' input. What do you think? Should I patch it as an emergency spare or just discard it? Wwyd?

    Out of left field:

Does anyone know part numbers and/or where I can get the clips that hold the dash pieces together on a 2nd gen?

if something punctured the sidewall Id get a whole new tire (or set).... that get's pretty crappy and a patch is unreliable... companies wont even patch a side wall problem

    good luck

That is a tough call. I'd ask myself a bunch of questions like: How big is the nail? Is the puncture straight and clean or is there tearing in the rubber? Are you going to patch or plug (patch is better)? How fast are you going to go on it if you have to use it?

Most shops I know won't touch a sidewall puncture no matter how small and clean but they have to account for liability.

Well, I already bought a new tire after hunting for a matching tire around town. I just have the punctured tire in the bed of my truck which is basically new and i hate to just toss it...

Its a tiny puncture from a 4" nail. Its at about a 45 degree angle but clean through the sidewall. I was planning on using a self vulcanizing patch on the inside and just have it in case anything ever happened to one of my tires. I wouldnt use it on the highway, just to get home or a tire shop.

Sounds like you've got your answer. It's about weighing your risks versus your benefits. My concern would be a high speed blowout and it sounds like you don't plan on going on the interstate with it.

If you get there early enough you can get front row parking and not pay. I used to do fundraising there to park cars or take tickets and they aren't organized that early ;)

For the reference of 2nd Gen owners, here are the part numbers for the little pink and yellow clips that hold a majority of the dash pieces together.

The pink clips are 90467-12080 $0.66/each most places

The yellow clips are 90467-10203 $0.66/each most places
