We are traveling from Pittsburgh, PA to Southern California in April for a business convention. Any suggestions on what to do and what to see?
    (or where to eat :hungry:)

Here is our schedule in mid-April:
    Tuesday - Thursday: Hollywood
    Thursday - Sunday: Newport Beach

Girls wants to do the Hollywood Wax Museum, the Movie Star's Homes Tour and some walking tour through Hollywood.
I know...very touristy but its what they want to do. Any thoughts on these 'attractions'?
Any suggestions on a dinner spot or cool place to eat in Hollywood?

On Thursday, we travel to Newport Beach and stay until Sunday. Any standout attractions there? The girls want to hit the beach.

You should try Cleo's in Hollywood. Mediterranean tapas, very good. Must make reservation.
If you like sushi, Sasabune in Santa Monica is great, but pricey.
You can also find your way up to the Hollywood sign, there's a hidden path to it.

Eh, Hollywood is rather bland and boring nowadays. It's very dirty and filled with bums. But during the day, its quite and adventure. I suggest hiking up to the Hollywood sign and possibly walking the "Walk of Fame" one day, then enjoy the rest of your days at Venice Beach, Malibu, etc.

Once in Newport, the beach is really nice but the people who have beach houses are rather blah. And parking sucks. Maybe hit Huntington beach which isn't too far North from there, and there is a pier which is cool. I'll post more when I can.

Universal Studios is there in Hollywood (over the hill)... then Disneyland or Knott's Berry Farm is real fun... in Orange County (closer to Newport Beach).

Awesome suggestions! I'll sit down with the wife and research some of these places.

We do plan to drive up some of the hills around the HW sign. And a hike right up to the sign would be really cool!

I put SaddleRanch on the list of choice restaurants. It looks fun. I LOVE sushi and am always willing to pay a premium for quality but, unfortunately, my group will not be into it.

One of the 3 girls going is preggo (my wife :)) so wineries and theme parks are out.

We will definitely do the walk of fame.

Thanks for the suggestions on Huntington Beach. It looks like a 20 minute drive and might be worth checking out. We'll have a rental car all week.

Newport is just about the awesome place in Socal. April may be a bit too early for the perfect weather, women, etc. but still wont be bad. Hollywood is pretty much a one day thing, it's not all it's cracked up to be. Venice beach is cool for people watching, very entertaining.

Just watch out for the transvestite prostitutes

I gotta agree with everyone else. Hollywood is not that great for more than a few hours. Another idea is to check and see if any bands you like are playing in Hollywood area. There are plenty of clubs with all types of music. Another thing to do would be to take a drive (assuming you'll have a car) up PCH towards Malibu and Point Dume. Even if you don't care for Malibu (I don't) the drive along the ocean can be nice. Or go walk around the Promenade in Santa Monica. A lot of restaurants, shops, and street performers.

I agree with the rest, hollywood is good for a day tour. Go see some big houses, walk of fame,Griffith observatory. you can go to the city walk and check out the restaurants and stores. City walk is cool and night and nice too look at(girls). Malibu and Venice are cool. Newport is clean and nice, huntington is ok, a beach is a beach so Enjoy it.

    Go Green Bay.:p

City walk is a lot of fun, take the group to "howl at the moon" there's a bunch of other restaurants and stores etc.
