Hey guys, back in May I was looking at getting a Tacoma and signed up here. I lurked a bunch but ended up getting something more cost effective for me. Pretty bummed, but such is life. Anyway, I was wondering if you fellas could help me. I'm going up to Arrowhead tomorrow morning and was looking for some input. I figured you guys might be helpful

I was thinking of going the back way through Big Bear and taking the 18. The way that shoots off from the 15 through Apple Valley, though I've never done it before. I usually take the 330 up when we go to Big Bear, but I don't want to hit a bunch of traffic. Taking the 18 up, off of the 210 freaks me out so I'd rather not take that way. Coworker said taking the back side of the 18 should be way less traffic and safer. Can anyone confirm for me? I have a 2014 xB and will be bringing chains in case I need them. Any recommendations, advice, or tips would be awesome, thanks.

 

fyi the 18 can be really slippery and steep.

 

Going which way? Or both ways? Do you think I should just take the 330?

 

the back side from the 15. Granted it will not be as busy. I am sorry i meant 138 not the 18. If you are feeling really adventures in the XB you could take the fire road on pilot rock and eventually hit the back side of arrowhead lake . But that is going to be pretty bumpping. But their will be no traffic.

 

I think my car would fall apart or get stuck in the snow/mud hahaha. So do you think I'm okay to take the back way to Big Bear via the 18, and then cruise down to Arrowhead after?

 

yea, just warning the turns are sharp and steep. Do you have cables or chains?? Make sure you put the chains on the driving wheels. Cause i have seen where people put them on the on driving wheels.

 

Are they any worse than the 18 off the 210? Cause I hate that drive. I usually go up and down the 330 because, even if it might be just as scary as the 18, the trees usually do a good job of hiding your imminent death haha. And yeah I bought cables at wal mart that matched my tires. I'm gonna put them on the front two tires.

 

Dammit I wanna go see snow!!!
