Is there a CB Chanel for SoCal?

Hey guys! I have a few questions about your CB radio.

1. Is there a common CB channel that you SoCal guys use or should use to chat with fellow TW members in SoCal?

2. How often do you use your CB when your not off-road?

I spend my CB time scanning through most the channels, usually calling out cops or traffic conditions on CH 19. My handle is "TacoTuesday."

 

When they do trail runs it used to be on ch 21 i think. Cops have cb's? I know you used to get them on a few channels on the vhf. Vhf is the way to go, cb's suck for range.

 

I'm not sure if cops have CB radios. I call out their speed traps on ch 19 to let truckers know to slow down. VHF does sound like the way to go...it's deffinetly on the list of mods!(the never-ending list.)

 

Yeah cops don't have cb's, i knew truckers were on 19 but i never heard shit so i took it out. On 2 meter(vhf) you can hear most local police departments, chp and air traffic are on 4 meter from what i remember. Big range out of vhf, hundreds of miles on a clear day.

 

I'm interested in the VHF radio thing. Is that the reason why on base I see some dudes rolling with 2 antenna? Also, where can I buy one? I looked up Fry's but don't think they carry 'em. Are they the same as the radios used on boat?

 

The socal cb channel is 21 and we mainly only use it on trail runs.. However I run a 2meter / race radio for when I go out to the desert races. I pick up a lot with that. I've heard fire fighter and lifeguard channels as well as a dispatcher but everytime I try to hear a police band I hear for like 30sec and then it gets scrambled so I'm guessing cops use an encrypted channel or something... 2 meter radios can be found through desert racing suppliers.. I use PCI race radios!

I used to listen to the cops all day, search the internet to find the correct channel. They don't scramble the channel because they would be scrabbling themselves too.

 

we should set up a channel for everyone, but I don't use my cb unless I'm offroading. I did get stuck once and tried calling for help on my cb and nothing. In the end I got out thanks to my jack.
