Good Camp Sites

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good camping spot for beginners. What we're looking for is something ...

- within 2hrs of Pasadena
- secluded from others
- little to no hiking from vehicles
- fire-rings/fire pits and grill
- able to retrieve fire wood

We dont need really bathrooms/showers. Just planning a little weekend trip. We just want to go somewhere to chill out, pitch your tent, build a fire, cook some grub, drink some beer, and relax. Not planning to hike or any other out door activities. Maybe play catch or toss the football around. Suggestions??? thanks in advance

 

Big Bear is nice... I think it's a little out of your range though.

Went up to sawmill campground this past weekend....it was pretty cool. Not sure if it's within 2 hours of pasadena tho.

they have fire rings & tables, park @ camp site. I wouldn't call it secluded because it is a "campground" where others would be near by. I'm not sure how they would feel if you started cutting down trees either...

 

I think Lockwood valley is a little bit out of your range - but I always prefer to go to there because of how secluded it is. Not neccessarily the spots linked above, but there are some spots back there that are pretty bitchin. You can shoot back there also, which is a big bonus

 

For beginners...iono, but check out the lakes:

Lake Castaic (great, we're going there again this august)
Silverwood Lake (good, lots of shade)
Lake Skinner (haven't gone there but heard good reviews.)
Lake Piru (has electrical outlets which is nice, dirt place = dusty, lots of people)

 

Most of the lakes around here have banned alcohol, from what I remember. Not just ON the water, but at the lake campgrounds too.

That sir you are correct... But most lakes if i remember correctly will allow waivers.

waivers? really? As in, here sign this and you can drink here waiver?

Well shit, if thats the case i see more lakes in my future. I called around to all them (in the past) asking about alcohol nobody said anything about any waivers!
