Insurance question

Family member had her car slightly rear ended (license plate mark and cracks on paint on edge of bumper).

Anyways, we got the guy's insurance policy number, etc. We reported to our insurance company (Wawanessa). Is that the standard procedure? Wawanessa said they will have somebody come out to see the car.

In the past, my accidents were so huge, we had to go through an attorney.

In this case, we just wanted to have the bumper fix.

An adjuster comes out to assess the damage. They then bill the insurance of the driver at fault. I'm not sure if they write you a check before or after they collect from the other insurance.

Wawanessa is a great company, they will have somebody come out take pictures and write a estimate. From there you can drop it off at any shop and they will pay for it also get a rental if you need one. You might have to pay you're deductible but you will get it back when the other insurance pays wawanesa.

If there is a body shop you prefer, take the vehicle there and the adjuster will get the estimate from the body shop

you'll have to pay a deductible if you go through your insurance company.

If the other person is at fault, your insurance company will subrogate against them and get the full cost of fixing the car from the other insurance company, and refund your deductible.

Wawanessa came out yesterday and estimated to be 675. They asked us if we want to go through the process with them. I assumed if we don't go with them, we have to call the other insurance company? We likely to just deal directly with our insurance company.

We had our cars fix by Marco's body shop in the past but its very pricey. Many adjusters cried when they hear that body shop.
