Go to the battery as directly as possible with an inline fuse within a few inches of the battery. Less noise that way.

I love TW.. lol

I literally just picked up my Firestik II kit today (direct from Firestik as they are from Az) and bought a new Uniden 520xl Yesterday.

Im subbing to this thread as im doing this EXACT setup this weekend. let me know how it goes once its all done.

I am planning on mounting the CB in the same spot.. was wondering if it was able to be heard from in there. if not, i was gonna get a small external and keep it in the center console.. and take it out and throw it in the cupholders/storage area when needed.

Im planning on mounting the Antenna on the driver side tailgate support.

That's the Firestik door jamb mount. Worked out pretty well. Gonna tune it tomorrow. Also, I put in an external speaker. Otherwise you have to cruise around with the console lid open to hear anything.

Thanks. Right now the speaker is just sitting under the driver seat. I need to find a better place to mount it but I just got fed up and stuck it under there

Drinking coffee first! Then I'll wander out to the garage and get it ready. Everything I've read says to tune it in an open area... I'm gonna head over to the parking area near the beach. The Pacific Ocean counts as an "open" area, right?

SWR meter in line and ready. Heading down to the shore to tune. The Pacific Ocean makes a great open space to tune in.

Hello again. To tune the antenna, you only need an area relatively free of obstructions. This means as few items (cars, metal poles, power lines, trees, etc) as possible within roughly eighteen feet of the antenna. Eighteen feet is approximately half the wavelength of the frequencies used for CB. Items outside that distance will have little or no impact on the SWR.

^^ Stingy bum. You could at least give each of us one freaking can. Just wait until you ask for help again. I'm gonna post nonsense, leading you down a quick road to hell.

Seriously, glad the antenna is finally all set up and working.
