I really should just quote this whole first one, although it says cops average 40% shots hit, thats a very reasonable number when you think about it.

    The misses include:
having been shot first and firing back
wrestling with a perp and firing
    getting shot at
    running and shoot
    etc, etc, etc

Thanks for the info man, really puts it into perspective.. and to those that said "cops are 10x as likely to miss a target as a civilian" I've never been shot at firing a weapon and I've never had to fire with in 1 second of drawing.

Not to mention that this doesn't compare the frequency a gun is drawn, which it should.

How many times a year do civilians draw a weapon in self defense, how many times a year do police. I don't see that these are "per capita" (per 100,000) percentages, but based on totals in the us.

Not defending the cops, but, it was dark, supposedly there were tinted windows, and they were driving suspiciously.
That being said shooting at a car without knowing who or what is inside was pretty stupid. They should have requested backup with the radios 99% of cops have with them, and attempted to pull the vehicle over.

I second...What happened to the first rule of Firearms?....Identify your target.... be 100% sure that you are prepared to kill or destroy whatever is in the path of your muzzle.

One has to wonder the stability of all cops in the U.S. I have known good ones and I have been a victim of bad ones, but if one shot at me.....unjustified....Why wouldint I react as an animal? How the F*** would I know it was not someone who killed a cop and stole a crusier..... We are starting to see a vague line between "rank" and civilian. Justice is getting muddy, and all Americans should pay attention. I had a small town friend where I use to live who quit the County Sheriffs office and went into the Marines because he said there were too many people working with him who had a (God Complex) and were not interested in true Justice. He joined to uphold True Justice....but realized his superiors were crooked and his badge meant less than what it once was. This guy was 100% no bullshit type of guy. Made me re-think my own path into law enforcement.

Had to go up to the Corona / Riverside area yesterday morning on Co. buisiness, everybodys on edge. Glad the Company traded the blue Ranger for a brown one. I can see the Point Loma Naval base from my patio window.

If you're going to condemn and judge these officers; based on preliminary news reports (essentially hear-say), and you weren't present for the event; then you certainly should not become a member of law enforcement.

It's literally impossible for you to know the facts, because you weren't there, and the official report has not been released. I wasn't there either, but there are far too many unknowns for me to be certain of what went down. Was it an unfortunate mistake, yes, but you cannot determine incompetence or malicious intent of an officer involved shooting with out knowing the facts.

I can, There are two trucks full of holes....And...the suspect is still on the loose. Police state? Why wouldn't I be pissed off. Chases happen daily in California, but dumb God damn cops made bad decisions on this one. I will be God damned myself if I do not feel a bit disgusted by it.
