& there very well could be a murder charge also, Calfire found a badly burnt body in a homeless encampment in San Marcos or Carlsbad ...

 

What I don't understand is, with a big city such as SD, how come they don't have a county fire dept?

 

Down here, fire protection is broken into "fire districts" meaning that they are regional , example: San Diego county has what they call "unincorporated areas".. These are communitys like Lakeside (where i live) that are within the county but are not cities within the county, each of these areas are basically responsible for their own as far as local fire protection goes, this is done thru local bond measures & local taxes, as those communities that ARE cities within the county are also responsible for their own, that said theres Calfire & CDF (both state agencies) that provide blanket protection for all within the state, Obviously a small community like mine can't afford a water dropping hi tech helo (millions) or have the resources that are found on the state level so ergo the state provides this ..

It ran pretty smooth this time, back in '07 & worse the cedar creek fire of 03' (485,000 combined acres IIRC) were disasters as the cedar creek fire burned unchecked for almost 6 hours while Calfire & CDF argued over who's jurisdiction it was in & who was to respond... fucking stupid...

 

LA county is the same, however in those unincorporated areas, such as the community where I live, we have LA county fire. I'm 30min north of LA. Weird.

 

It may be because theres so many unincorporated communities in L.A. county that they consolidated & partnered an agreement with the county, how long has LA had a county FD ?
