I think it's more the raffles and sponsorships than anything usually you have to get permits and such for those events

I'm 2wd hard to get stuck out there unless you actually hit the dunes but superstition is a mix of both hard pack and soft stuff so it's good for the whole family

Correct, with a raffle where money is collected for tickets and when corporate sponsors are providing items it will require a commercial permit which costs a few hundred dollars. To get that permit it requires insurance for the event. The policy that SD 4 wheelers gets each year for their Superstition event costs $10,000+ and requires all participants to meet minimum safety requirements. If those are not met then the event insurance would be in jeopardy.

If we do have a come if you want, no organized event I will still bring food for a dinner at the event as it would be gratis to anyone that wants it.

We just don't want to put ourselves in a position where we could be fined or held liable for anyones bad decisions in the desert. Every year something has happened, so we are just trying to cover our own asses.

Again if anyone is interested in stepping up and helping plan events in the future reach out to me or @LilManny

I say we just set up a big ass meet out there and whoever want to come comes out and enjoys them selves no raffle or anything and every man for himself for food and insurance and what not that can't be illegal

Yeah, the Rangers may still see it as an organized event if there are tons of people attending. Just a grey area, I'm planning another event out there and was told by the BLM office that they are cracking down this year due to endangered species protection (horned lizard) that is primarily in that area.

The blue lines below mark the only "approved routes" in the open areas due to the the lizard.

Agreed, lets just do a meetup, everyone bring your own food/beverages, we can do a couple of big camps since im sure there will be a group of people wanting to stay up and party and a group of people wanting to sleep and wake up early. If any ranger asks we can just tell them the truth, that someone posted on a forum that they are going to ocotillo wells and we saw the post and decided to meet up.

I would be down to do a meet, I dont know any of you guys personally but im sure it would be a fun trip, I need more friends with prerunners

Looking forward to this trip, even though the truck is still not ready. Should have some goods for the raffle built up.
