it would be good to have a head count by the Wednesday before the run...

this run is taking place regardless, so whoever can make it, makes it...

the weekend before we will likely put up a roster...

everyone should give this run a try at least once in their lifetime...

i made the first 2 trips with just coilovers and one trip in LT...

although i will stress how important race radios are for a smooth run...

    Sounds like a cool trip.

I've been meaning to trim the spare tire carrier area to fit a full size spare. The shortwave radio thing though...I just can't bring myself to drop 400 bucks ona radio.

Not that I don't want one but for how often it would get used it's a lot of money

I know a guy who will sell me a used but in good working condition race radio for $150... He races 5/1600 and I guess has a few extra radios. I've been wanting to buy one so this might turn into the ocassion that will make me buy one.

some of the guys found the Yaesu 2m radios at Ham Radio Outlet for $130 brand new...

even if you only offroaded once a year, the cost of the investment is worth avoiding costly damage when out on a big run...

on one of the last runs, by not having my radio turned up, i dented a wheel... thank goodness it was steel and could be pounded back... had it been an alloy wheel, i would have been out $125+

How good are the handheld units?

How well do they operate out of a vehicle?

I went on the last run without a race radio. I only have a CB and Mike was the only other person with a CB. I did fine but missed out on all the communication. I tend to drive a little slower than most since I don't have LT while trying to avoid damage. If we get a few guys with CB's then the communication should be decent. Stock trucks will do fine, just can't fly on certain sections, like the whoops. As long as you have a spare that's the same height, you should be ok. You just don't want to be stuck in the desert. At least you'll be able to get home slowly.

Hehe. I didn't realize till we got to Stateline that I was the only truck without LT. I was a little out of my league. :( It was definitely a great time. I'll try to go faster this time. Poor MPower (Mike) had to drive behind me. But I never got stuck once!

Ham Radio Outlet has some radios for a reasonable price..

    This one is $140

You would need to research to find out how to unlock the frequencies to tap into the race channels...
