I've always thought about doing Helicopters. I think after years of flying fixed-winged I might move onto the rotors for a different experience.

I know it might sound nerdy but I won't this website the other day. They broadcast live ATC audio on the internet. I mainly listen to KAUS since that is the closest to where I live. They have ton's out there. Even international ATCs. So the next time you're in your coffee shop looking like your doing something important jamming to your tunes or whatever and someone asks what you're listening to. Tell them your jamming to some ATC traffic.

I was using that to "study" voice comms for flying. I came from a ship where the communications were by secure IM or HF radio...so it's a very different pace.
That LiveATC feed is great!!

I can't remeber what day it was, but Southwest Flight 121 had smoke in the cockpit. You can listen to it in the archieves. It happened last Sunday I believe out of Washington between 1830 and 1900.

All that I can say is the thing spun though the trees and down into a river.
The pilot broke his leg. I was put in for an Air Meadal w/ V Device for dragging him out. I can think of a lot of times when I really deserved the Medal. This was the one awarded. So it goes.

I have jumped from choppers. You don`t get the Catappiller Society or the Martin Baker Club for that.
I happen to be a member of both, despite my spelling.

When I was in the Navy, some people I knew were able to ride back seat of an F-4 for reenlisting. Unfortunately they stopped the practice. I would have done it in a heartbeat! The closest I came was I got to ride in a Lear jet that the navy was using as a mock bomber. It did some pretty fun 3-G turns (no flight suits). I got to see an F-14 flying right up next to us off our wingtip in formation.

Times have changed and not for the better. You used to get a hop from any Service by just listing yourself on the manifest.

Real aviators are at the EAA Convention. This is the first one that I missed in a long time. The VA wants to do some cutting on me.

Well, im getting down to the wire now. I'm less than 10hours till im eligible for my check ride. Anyone have any tips or suggestions to blowing my checkride out of the water? (Private Pilot, Single Engine Land)

Holy crap, that's nuts. When did that happen? What are the procedures for landing with a blow tire? Haha. I wonder what kind of damage that would do to that aluminum shell.

not sure what the procedures are for that specific aircraft, but in general, you want to land on the side of the runway that your good tire is one, and smoothly, and quickly stop the aircraft with remaining brakes, (probably using full rudder as well in his case). and stop on the runway.

For what happened, and with what experince I have (not that much, I still have less than 100 hours) I would say the pilot did a really good job.

Took my checkride today. I don't think that I could have been thrown anymore curves balls to complete this checkride. For 1: President Bush is in Crawford through the 20th so that throws up a 30NM TFR. 2: The plane I was going to checkout in crapped on me so I had to use a different plane. 3: Weather in Texas is crap.

The good thing is i got the oral portion out of the way and I passed with flying colors. My examiner ultimately left it up to me on whether or not to continue and with the storms coming in and out, I decided to continue another day. Hopefully that will give me points for deciding whether or not to fly. So hopefully there will be a break in the weather sometime.
