Knives

Any of you carry knives on you all day like I do? If so, what do you carry?

I have a SOG Flash II that worked wonderfully until I decided to take it apart and clean it today...can't get it back together because of the spring opener. Tip: Don't try and take apart knives with springs.

So while I try and figure out just how to get that one back together I decided to go out today and get a Benchmade Griptilian 551S. It isn't an assisted opener like my SOG, but overall I think I like this one better than my old SOG.

 

I carried a SOG Trident for work- until I used it during a drug bust and it had to be submitted with the evidence package-BYE BYE SOG.

I've got a forefinger flick leatherman knife right now.

Yes I am a knife carrier. I have had a Gerber in my pocket for the past 25 years, and recently a good friend of mine just gave me a Spyderco Native, which I am very impressed with, lightweight, razor sharp, serrated edge, and American made. I too like the SOG knives and am considering purchasing one. I am also lucky in that I am close to a small knife shop that carries many handmade customs, but end up very pricey. I think of knives as a tool, and use them as such, so mine are scratched and worn, but sharp.

 

Can LEOs carry automatics? I know that military personnel can get them, but wasn't sure if LEOs could.

 

i usually tote a kershaw clip knife, ive also always got a cable splicers knife that stays on me all day everyday at work and a Hen and Rooster straight knife on me whenever i go out and about. ud be surprised how many cops/security officers stop me over it too. its a legal knife to tote but they cant seem to figure out why s/o would need it......lol i need it because hen and rooster have always had good metal. but i admit tho my heart lies with Case knives. i collect stag handle case knives for a hobby and thats probably the only thing that keeps me from spending ALLLLL my money on the old tacoma................ lol

 

Yeah good point. I'm sure that if you're in a situation that you need a weapon you're much, much more likely to pull your gun out instead of a knife. Might as well use the one they give you for free.

 

great thread tim!!! i carry knives all the time!!! im gonna post pics of them sooner or later. i love gerber knives, especially for hunting.....but i like benchmark and buck also!!!

 

i got a knive that i keep in the truck. its an off brand but its sharp as hell. anybody ever heard of kutmaster. its about a 5 inch blade

 

I carry this most of the time or a buck ranger .

I have a $1 knife from walmart that I carry. Its a POS, but it gets the job done.

I been meaning to start a thread like this. I need a new knife. Something inexpensive, small enough to be carried 24/7 and strong enough to last me a long time.

If you want something small, check out the SOG Flash I. It's assisted opening (spring loaded...almost like an automatic.) I would have bought the Flash I over the II because I don't really need a 3" blade.

 

i carry a buck shealth knife since i lost my puma prince ive had for 4 years. ......noticed its not like a puma, lot harder to sharpen than the puma.....i did pay a lot for the puma compared to the 60$ buck

 

Yeah, I like automatics. I usually carry either the HK or the Microtech.

 

Oh, I almost forgot my newest auto, a Pro-Tech Runt 3. I got it for my frequent trips into California as it is legal to carry there.

 

I lost not one but two Sog "mini-xray's" at $60 a pop, by the pocket clip hanging up on the liner of my riding jacket last fall.

I then started carrying a $20 Ka-Bar "Dozier drop point" with AUS 8 steel, reversible clip, and it really holds an edge.

I still think for camping and the outdoors it's hard to beat a classic Buck 110 folding hunter.
