Noob MTB Bike

Looking for a good or ok beginner bike to hit the trails with. Not trying to break the bank with this one. Started at the local craigslist and came up with a few. Looking to stay within the $300-$500 range.

Though I'm personally not a fan of dual suspension I'd say the Trek. It has XTR components. The Fisher said it needed a tune with the sifters.

 

Here is a little advice...
I have been mountain biking for 18 plus years.

You spend 300-500 bucks on a bike you are wasting your money.
You will get what you paid for and wish you hadn't.

How do I know? I did it with my first bike and never made the mistake again.

Here is some solid advice.

Spend a little more. Educate yourself on products, buy a good quality used bike on CL, and don't make the common mistakes many of us have at the start.

Good luck and you are going to love mountain biking. Great people, great fun, and it is always a adventure.

Oh, and ask plenty of questions. Mountain bikers for the most parts are very cool...

 

Good advice. I had biked for years then got out of it. I had to re-educate myself on what new and I just recently bought a Kona Kula off of CL for $500. It has great components and shifts rides way better than the Specialized I rode in the 90's. So read up and good luck.

 

Thanks guys. $$$ Is kinda tight right now. Just put a new set of tires on the taco, plus moving into a new place next month. I dont plan on riding a lot right now because of my schedule, maybe 3-4 times a month.

 

its a shame you dont live closer i have a 1999 schwinn moab that is in pretty much brand new condition. its got judy rock shocks and a few odds and ends that were pretty darn good at the time but im sure are outdated now. but i only put about 70 miles on it and had to hang it up cuz of a knee surgery. been there since. i would def let it go for around 200-250. shame you arent closer.
